Bengal Bamboo / Indian Timber Bamboo

Bambusa tulda is a fast growing medium-sized tropical clumping bamboo native to the Indian subcontinent, Indochina, Tibet, and Yunnan. It is considered to be one of the most valuable multipurpose bamboo species, which usually grows up to a height of 20 m with diameters between 5-10 cm. In India it is used extensively by the paper pulp industry, but due to its nearly solid culms it is also an excellent and strong timber that can be used in construction and scaffolding.

Dendrocalamus strictus is a tropical and subtropical clumping species native to Southeast Asia. This bamboo is extensively used as a raw material in paper mills and has edible shoots. It is a medium-sized bamboo with culms of about 8-20 m tall and 2.5-8 cm in diameter. Gregarious flowering cycle varies from 25-45 years. Flowers appear from November to February and fruits are seen from February to April.

The culms of Bambusa Balcooa are on average between 16-25 m high and 7-15 cm in diameter. Stems are used as a building material for houses, bridges, fishing floats, is much used for scaffolding, frames of rickshaw hoods, baskets, woven mats and for agricultural and fishing implements.

Bambusa bambos is a species of tropical dense clumping bamboo native to Southeast Asia. This bamboo species was previously named Bambusa arundinacea and is often used for construction purposes. Grows in 20-30 m High with 10-15 cm diameter. It's flowering cycle is 16-52 years. Culms are used for house construction, scaffolding, rafters, thatching and roofing, handicrafts and art objects, basket making, bows and arrows, furniture, floating timber and rafting, cooking utensils and fencing.

A dense tropical clumping bamboo native of Malaysia. Young shoots are consumed as a vegetable while the stems are used for making furniture and musical instruments and other handicrafts. The culm of this species is very useful for building material. Gigantochloa atter grows in 15 - 22 m with a diameter of 5 - 10 cm.
