Oilers Edge Out Kings in Thrilling Game 7 Overtime Victory

Los Angeles, CA – April 30, 2025 – In a heart-stopping Game 7 showdown, the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 in overtime, advancing to the second round of the NHL playoffs in a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final moment.

The matchup, held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, was a back-and-forth battle from the opening puck drop. The Kings struck first with a power-play goal from Adrian Kempe late in the first period, but the Oilers responded in the second with Leon Draisaitl burying a one-timer past Kings goaltender Cam Talbot.

Tensions soared in the third period when Anze Kopitar restored the Kings' lead with a slick deflection, only for Connor McDavid to answer minutes later with a dazzling breakaway goal, tying the game 2-2 and forcing overtime.

Just 3:42 into the extra frame, Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard blasted a slap shot from the point that deflected off a Kings defender and past Talbot, sending the Oilers into celebration and silencing the home crowd.

'It's a tough way to lose, but that's hockey,' said Kings captain Anze Kopitar. 'We battled hard, but they got the bounce when it mattered.'

Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner was a standout, making 38 saves, including several key stops in overtime. 'This team never quits,' said McDavid. 'We knew it would take everything, and we got it done.'

The Oilers now move on to face the Vancouver Canucks in the second round, while the Kings head into the offseason with questions about how to take the next step.

One thing is certain—this thrilling chapter in the Oilers-Kings rivalry won't be forgotten anytime soon.
