Wizards Stun Celtics in Thrilling Overtime Victory

Washington, D.C. – March 25, 2025 – In a high-octane showdown at Capital One Arena, the Washington Wizards pulled off a stunning 128-125 overtime victory against the Boston Celtics, shaking up the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Led by a heroic 38-point performance from All-Star guard Tyus Jones, the Wizards overcame a 15-point second-half deficit to force overtime, where clutch shooting and defensive stops sealed the win. Jones, who also dished out 12 assists, hit a crucial step-back three-pointer with 1:12 left in OT to give Washington the lead for good.

'We never stopped believing,' said Wizards head coach Brian Keefe. 'This team fights, and tonight showed what we’re capable of against one of the best.'

The Celtics, who entered the game with the NBA’s best record, were led by Jayson Tatum’s 34 points and 10 rebounds. However, Boston’s usually reliable offense sputtered in crunch time, committing two costly turnovers in the final minute of overtime.

'We got complacent,' admitted Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla. 'Washington outworked us in the fourth quarter and overtime. We have to be better.'

The Wizards’ Kyle Kuzma added 26 points, including a game-tying layup with 8.9 seconds left in regulation, while rookie Bilal Coulibaly made key defensive plays, blocking Jaylen Brown’s potential game-winner at the end of the fourth.

With the win, Washington (38-35) moves closer to securing a Play-In Tournament spot, while Boston (58-15) sees its lead over Milwaukee shrink to just two games for the East’s top seed.

The two teams meet again in Boston on April 9 in what could be another playoff preview.
