Rebecca Lobo Inducted into Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in Celebrated Career Honor

Springfield, MA – June 10, 2024 – Basketball legend Rebecca Lobo, a trailblazer in women’s sports, was enshrined in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame this weekend, cementing her legacy as one of the game’s most influential figures. The induction ceremony, held in Springfield, Massachusetts, honored Lobo for her extraordinary contributions as a player, broadcaster, and advocate for women’s athletics.

Lobo, 50, rose to fame as a star center for the University of Connecticut (UConn), where she led the Huskies to their first NCAA Championship in 1995. That season, she earned Naismith Player of the Year honors and became a household name, helping to popularize women’s college basketball nationwide.

After graduating, Lobo was a foundational player in the WNBA’s inaugural 1997 season, joining the New York Liberty and later playing for the Connecticut Sun and Houston Comets. Though injuries shortened her professional career, her impact extended beyond the court.

Since retiring, Lobo has become a prominent ESPN analyst, providing expert commentary for women’s basketball games and advocating for gender equity in sports. She has also been a vocal supporter of Title IX and youth basketball programs.
