Upon arrival, they find Ryan—exhausted but alive—among a ragtag group of airborne troopers preparing for a last stand. When told of his brothers’ deaths and his ticket home, Ryan refuses. 'These are my brothers now. I won’t abandon them.'

Miller, torn between duty and honor, makes a decision: They stay and defend the bridge.

Chapter 3: The Last Stand

The Germans attack at dawn. Tanks, infantry, and mortar fire rain down on the outnumbered Americans. Miller’s squad fights desperately—Jackson picks off enemy officers, Mellish dies in brutal close combat, and Upham, paralyzed by fear, fails to save a comrade.

In the final moments, Miller is fatally wounded, but the Allies hold long enough for reinforcements to arrive. As Ryan kneels beside the dying captain, Miller whispers his last words: 'Earn this… earn it.'

Epilogue: A Life Lived Well

Decades later, an elderly Patrick Ryan stands at Miller’s grave in Normandy. Tears in his eyes, he turns to his family and says, 'I tried to live a good life. I hope that was enough.'
