'28 Years Later' Officially Greenlit with Original Creative Team Returning

May 23, 2025 — In a thrilling announcement for horror fans, Sony Pictures has confirmed that 28 Years Later, the long-awaited sequel to the iconic 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later (2007), is officially moving forward. Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, the director and writer of the original film, are reuniting to helm the project, with Cillian Murphy returning as an executive producer and potentially reprising his role as Jim.

The original 28 Days Later, released in 2002, revolutionized the zombie genre with its fast-moving infected and gritty realism. Despite years of speculation, a third installment had remained in development limbo—until now.
