The Nuggets, Timberwolves, and Thunder—three unlikely suspects—had clawed their way to the top, leaving bloodstains on the court. But lurking just beneath them? The Clippers, Mavericks, Suns, Pelicans, and Lakers—all with motive, all with opportunity. And in the shadows, the Warriors and Kings were sharpening their knives, waiting for their moment to strike.
The Crime Scene
The evidence was damning:
Denver Nuggets (55-24): The reigning champs, cool as a hitman in a snowstorm. Nikola Jokić, the Serbian sniper, was dropping dimes and bodies in equal measure. But were they playing possum, waiting to strike when it mattered?
Minnesota Timberwolves (54-25): A ragtag crew of young guns (Edwards) and old muscle (Gobert). They’d been written off as pretenders—until the bodies started dropping. Now? They were one game back with blood in their eyes.
Oklahoma City Thunder (54-25): The baby-faced assassins. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander moved in silence, slicing through defenses like a switchblade. But were they too young to survive the coming massacre?
The Suspects
LA Clippers (51-28): Kawhi Leonard—the Terminator. No emotion, just execution. But his co-conspirators (Harden, PG) had a history of… choking when the lights got bright.
Dallas Mavericks (48-31): Luka Dončić, the Slovenian schemer, was putting up numbers like a mob accountant. Kyrie Irving? Unpredictable. Dangerous. The kind of guy who’d flip on you mid-interrogation.
Phoenix Suns (46-33): KD, Book, and Beal—a trio of hired guns. But chemistry was off. Too many egos, too many bullets flying wild.
