'Thunderstrike Stuns Crowd with Record-Breaking Kentucky Derby Victory'

Louisville, KY — May 4, 2024

In a heart-pounding finish that left spectators in awe, Thunderstrike, a spirited 3-year-old colt, surged ahead in the final stretch to claim victory at the 150th Kentucky Derby, held at Churchill Downs. Trained by veteran horseman Mark Delgado and ridden by jockey Eduardo Rios, the dark bay colt shattered expectations—and the track record—with a blistering time of 1:59.12, the fastest in Derby history.

The race, dubbed the 'Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports,' lived up to its name as Thunderstrike overtook early leader Silver Phantom in the final furlong, winning by a neck in front of a record crowd of 165,000 fans. 'He just had another gear,' an elated Rios said after the race. 'When I asked him to go, he exploded. This horse is something special.'
