Quincy Wilson Breaks High School World Record at U.S. Olympic Trials

Eugene, Oregon – June 30, 2024

In a stunning display of speed and endurance, 16-year-old Quincy Wilson shattered the high school world record in the 400 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials, solidifying his place as one of the most exciting young talents in track and field.

Wilson, a rising junior from Bullis School in Maryland, clocked an astonishing 44.59 seconds in the semifinals, breaking the previous high school record of 44.69 set by Justin Robinson in 2019. The performance not only made him the fastest high schooler in history but also earned him a spot in the finals, where he will compete against some of the nation’s top professionals for a chance to represent Team USA at the Paris Olympics.

'I knew I had it in me,' Wilson said after the race. 'My coaches, my family, and my teammates believed in me, and I just trusted the process.'

Wilson’s meteoric rise has captivated the track world. Earlier this year, he dominated the high school circuit, running sub-45-second times—a rarity for athletes his age. His semifinal run at the Olympic Trials was a masterclass in pacing, as he surged past seasoned competitors in the final stretch.

If Wilson finishes in the top three in the finals, he will become the youngest U.S. male Olympian in the 400 meters since 1964. Even if he doesn’t secure a spot, his record-breaking performance has already cemented his status as a future star.

'This is just the beginning,' Wilson said with a confident smile. 'I’m ready for whatever comes next.'

The men’s 400-meter final will take place on July 4, where Wilson will face Olympic medalists like Michael Norman and Rai Benjamin. Regardless of the outcome, his name is now etched in track and field history.
