Block Inc. Stock Surges After Strong Earnings Report

SAN FRANCISCO – Shares of Block Inc. (NYSE: SQ), the fintech company formerly known as Square, soared by 12% in early trading Thursday following a better-than-expected earnings report. The company reported strong growth across its Cash App and Square payment platforms, signaling a rebound after months of market volatility.

'We're seeing record engagement across our platforms, with small businesses and consumers embracing our seamless financial tools,' Dorsey said in a statement.

Investors responded enthusiastically, driving Block’s stock to its highest level in over a year. The rally comes after a challenging period for the company, which faced regulatory scrutiny and macroeconomic pressures in 2024.

Analysts at Morgan Stanley upgraded Block’s stock to 'Overweight,' citing improved profitability and expanding margins. 'Block has successfully diversified its revenue streams, reducing reliance on any single segment,' said analyst Lisa Chen.

Despite the positive momentum, some caution remains. Rising interest rates and competition from rivals like PayPal and Stripe could pose future challenges.

As of midday trading, Block’s stock was up 12.3% at $98.75, marking one of its best single-day gains this year.
