August 2014: Barik detects TMPRSS2 [35] with MERS infection
In August 2014, while investigating the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV or MERS), Barik and other researchers from Shanghai University and the University of Minnesota compared MERS to two closely related coronaviruses known as HKU4 and HKU5. Despite some similarities, Barik and others have shown that the spike proteins HKU4 and HKU5 [36] do not attach to or infect human cells. However, the MERS spike protein attaches to a cell receptor found in humans known as dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4) [37].
DPP4 is also known as adenosine deaminase complexing protein 2 or differentiation cluster 26 (CD26). Stimulation of DPP4 leads to an immune response and the release of inflammatory cytokines [38]. Similar to the ACE2 receptor gene, the [gene] DPP4 is also found on the X chromosome, which explains some of the differences between men and women in SARSCoV-2 infections [39].
The inability of MERS to bind to ACE2 receptors was confirmed by Chinese researchers in 2020 [40]. This brings us to the information provided by Dr. Li Meng Yan, namely that SARS-CoV-1 [41] was a genetically modified (enhanced functionality) virus, which was also a biological weapon developed by the Communist Party of China (CCP), with SARS-CoV-2 being a modified version of this biological weapon [42].
2015: Barik and Zhenli-Li combine the vector of one virus and the spike protein of another

According to Barik:

In the version of this article originally published online, the authors did not specify the source of funding, USAIDEPT-PREDICT funding from the EcoHealth Alliance, for Z.-L.S. The error was corrected in the printed, PDF and HTML versions of the article [48].
Additional [49] material for this study, published by Zhengli-Li and Barik, shows that the spike protein of the SHC014-CoV (SL-COV) virus [50], which affects horseshoe bats, was combined with the vector adapted to mice SARS-CoV (MA15). In addition to combining the spike protein of one virus with the vector of another virus, Barik and Zhenli-Li inserted (changed) four nucleotides into the open reading frame 1a (ORD1a) and the open read frame 1b (ORF1b) of the viral genome.
These nucleotide changes are shown in the following figure [51]. These inserts alter the replication proteins needed to create this chimeric (enhanced functionality) virus. The fifth nucleotide change was found at position 26428 in the envelope protein [52], a change that proved important for the SARS-CoV-2 virus to cross the blood-brain barrier, after which the virus can infect and damage the brain.
The study, as shown in the following figure, was funded by NIAID, NIH, USAID, and the EcoHealth Alliance. It specifically states that this Functional Enhancement Study (GOF) was reviewed and approved by the NIH and shows funding for both Barik (R.S.B.) and Zhengli-Li Shi (Z.-L.S.).
In an annotation to this published study, Zhengli-Li and Barik, in particular, state that they created a (chimeric) virus by enhancing functionality:
Using the SARS-CoV reverse genetics system, we created and characterized a chimeric virus expressing the SHC014 bat coronavirus spike in a mouse-adapted SARS-CoV vector [53].
Then Zhengli and Barik state:
In addition, in vivo experiments demonstrate the replication of the chimeric virus in mouse lungs with marked pathogenesis. Evaluation of the immunotherapeutic and prophylactic agents available for SARS showed low efficacy; both monoclonal antibody and vaccine approaches have failed to neutralize and protect against CoV infection using the novel spike protein. Based on these results, we synthetically re-obtained an infectious full-length recombinant SHC014 virus and demonstrated reliable viral replication both in vitro and in vivo.
In the end, the authors (Barik and Zhengli-Li) concluded that they had created a more pathogenic virus:
Thus, in comparison with the Urbani spine - MA15 CoV, SHC014-MA15 demonstrates increased pathogenesis (Fig. 1). Based on these results, scientific evaluation panels may consider similar studies of chimeric viruses from circulating strains to be too risky to carry out, as increased pathogenicity in mammalian models cannot be ruled out.
Combined with restrictions on mouse-adapted strains and on the development of monoclonal antibodies using escape mutants, progress in research on CoV emergence and therapeutic efficacy may be severely limited. Together, these findings and limitations represent an intersection of concerns about functionality enhancement research; the potential to prepare for and mitigate future outbreaks needs to be weighed against the risk of more dangerous pathogens [54]. [Emphasis added.]
Their chimeric (functional enhancement) virus was capable of "replicating in cultures of the human respiratory tract, causing pathogenesis ... and eluding existing therapy." In the end, the researchers seemed to be more concerned about what limits this might impose on the future research they would like to conduct than about the potential harm it could cause to humanity.
Many people decide over the years that they know what is best for humanity. September 2015: Zhengli and Barik redesign (enhance functionality) the MERS spike protein HKU4 to increase its infectivity in humans
By simultaneously introducing the SHC014 spike protein into the MA15 CoV vector and adding five nucleotide substitutions to enhance functionality, Zhengli and Barik worked to modify the enhancement of functionality in the spike protein of the HKU4 virus, also known as the Tylonycteris bats HKU4 coronavirus [57]. As discussed, HKU4 does not infect human cells. By the end of this study, Barik and Zhengli, who took a virus that could not infect human cells, turned it into a virus that could and did infect:
To assess the potential genetic changes required for HKU4 to infect human cells, we redesigned the HKU4 spike to enhance its ability to mediate virus entry into human cells. To this end, we introduced two single mutations S746R and N762A into the HKU4 spike ... Moreover, mutations in these motifs in the coronavirus spines have demonstrated a dramatic effect on the penetration of the virus into human cells.
Barik and Zhengli continued:
HKU4 pseudoviruses carrying either a redesigned hPPC motif or a redesigned hECP motif were able to enter human cells, while HKU4 pseudoviruses carrying both redesigned human protease motifs entered human cells ... Two mutations adaptive to human cellular proteases turned the spike MERS- CoV from absolutely lacking to fully possessing the ability to mediate the penetration of the virus into human cells [58]. [Emphasis added].
This functionality enhancement study turned non-infectious coronavirus into infectious and was funded by NIH grants RO1AI089728 and RO1AI110700.
Despite this evidence and money directed to Peter Dashak of the EcoHealth Alliance, Peter Dashak, along with other scientists, made a focused and deliberate effort to divert attention away from SARSCoV-2's laboratory origins and research to enhance functionality.
This effort went so far that in March 2020 it attracted scientists from all over the world [59] to refute the laboratory origin, insisting that the scientific community supported Dashak and others' version of the zoonotic [60] origin of this biological weapon. Dashak concluded his "statement" by stating, "We declare no conflict of interest."
When the World Health Organization (WHO) sent a team of 'experts' to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in January 2021, Peter Dashak, who was the only American on the team and led it, convinced the rest of the team that the missing WIV data was “ irrelevant ”[61].
In an effort to demonstrate my disapproval and challenge the ever-deteriorating objectivity of our scientific journals, I refused to remain as an external clinical reviewer at the Lancet in 2020, after nearly two decades of collaboration.
It is impossible not to be amazed at the significant amount of information in the published literature showing the sources of funding for these functional enhancement research projects and those involved in the experiments. Also, one cannot remain in the dark about the functional enhancement study carried out on the spike protein of coronaviruses and SARS-CoV-2, and the efforts to retroactively hide the source of funding for the study [62].
