BREAKING NEWS: P.J. Washington Signs Multi-Year Extension with Charlotte Hornets

Charlotte, NC – June 10, 2024 – The Charlotte Hornets have secured forward P.J. Washington with a lucrative multi-year contract extension, solidifying his role as a cornerstone of the franchise’s future.

Sources close to the negotiations confirm that the deal is worth $60 million over four years, with team and player options in the final season. Washington, who was set to become a restricted free agent, expressed his excitement about staying in Charlotte.

The 25-year-old forward had a breakout season in 2023-24, averaging 15.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while showcasing improved defense and three-point shooting. His versatility as a stretch-four has made him a key piece in head coach Charles Lee’s system.

Hornets General Manager Jeff Peterson praised Washington’s development: 'P.J. embodies what we want in a Hornet—hardworking, skilled, and committed to winning. Locking him up long-term was a top priority this offseason.'

With Washington now secured, Charlotte shifts focus to building around its young core, including LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Mark Williams. Fans are hopeful that this move signals the start of a new competitive era for the franchise.
