'One Shining Moment' Gets a Modern Makeover for 2024 NCAA Tournament

PHOENIX, AZ — The iconic One Shining Moment montage, the emotional highlight reel that caps off every NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, is getting a major update this year. For the first time in decades, CBS Sports and Turner Sports have announced a refreshed version of the beloved anthem, featuring a new arrangement by a surprise artist—Grammy-winning singer-songwriter H.E.R.

The original song, written by David Barrett in 1986, has become synonymous with March Madness, playing over slow-motion clips of buzzer-beaters, triumphant celebrations, and tearful goodbyes. But this year, alongside Luther Vandross’s classic rendition, a soulful new take will debut following the championship game between UConn and Purdue.

'We wanted to honor the tradition while bringing a fresh energy to One Shining Moment,' said CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus. 'H.E.R. brings a powerful, contemporary sound that still captures the heart and drama of the tournament.'

Fans had mixed reactions online, with some purists insisting 'you don’t mess with perfection,' while others welcomed the change. Meanwhile, the 2024 montage is expected to feature unforgettable moments, including NC State’s Cinderella run to the Final Four and Zach Edey’s dominant performances for Purdue.
