Lincoln Marathon 2025 Draws Record Participation Amid Perfect Running Conditions

Lincoln, NE – May 4, 2025 – The 48th annual Lincoln Marathon took place today, attracting thousands of runners from across the nation under clear skies and mild temperatures. The event, known for its scenic route and enthusiastic community support, saw a record number of participants, with over 15,000 athletes competing in the full and half marathon races.

Elite Winners and Standout Performances

In the men’s full marathon, defending champion Daniel Kiprop of Kenya crossed the finish line first with an impressive time of 2:12:34, narrowly edging out American runner Ethan Harrison, who finished in 2:13:07. On the women’s side, Sarah Whitman from Boulder, Colorado, claimed victory with a time of 2:32:45, marking her first major marathon win.

'The crowd support was incredible—it really pushed me through the final miles,' Whitman said after the race.

The half marathon winners were Ryan Foster (1:05:18) and Megan Castillo (1:15:42), both setting new personal bests.

Community Spirit on Display

Spectators lined the streets of downtown Lincoln, cheering on runners with signs, music, and cowbells. The course wound through iconic landmarks, including the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus and the State Capitol, before finishing at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

'This is my fifth year volunteering, and the energy never gets old,' said local resident Jenny Morales, who handed out water at an aid station.

A Race for All Runners

In addition to elite competitors, the event included charity runners, first-timers, and adaptive athletes. The marathon also partnered with local nonprofits, raising over $250,000 for health and wellness initiatives in the community.

Looking Ahead

Race director Mark Bowen announced that next year’s event will introduce a new sustainability initiative, including eco-friendly medals and reduced plastic waste. 'We want to keep growing while making a positive impact,' Bowen said.
