Kevin Harvick Announces Formation of New NASCAR Development Team

CHARLOTTE, NC – Former NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick is making a major return to the sport, but this time from the team owner’s box. Harvick, who retired from full-time racing at the end of the 2023 season, revealed today the formation of Harvick Performance Group (HPG), a new organization aimed at developing young talent in NASCAR’s national series.

The team will initially field entries in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, with plans to expand into the Craftsman Truck Series by 2026. Harvick, a 60-time Cup Series winner and 2014 champion, stated that his goal is to provide opportunities for up-and-coming drivers while maintaining a competitive presence in the sport.

'This has been a dream of mine for a long time,' Harvick said at a press conference in Charlotte. 'I’ve been fortunate to have incredible mentors throughout my career, and now I want to help the next generation find their footing in NASCAR. We’re not just here to participate—we’re here to win.'

While HPG has not yet announced its driver lineup, industry insiders speculate that Harvick may bring in a mix of seasoned veterans and promising rookies. The team has secured sponsorship from several of Harvick’s longtime partners, with more details expected in the coming weeks.

Harvick’s move follows in the footsteps of other retired drivers-turned-team-owners, such as Tony Stewart (Stewart-Haas Racing) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (JR Motorsports). With his competitive drive and business acumen, many believe HPG could quickly become a powerhouse in NASCAR’s developmental ranks.

Fans can expect an official team debut later this year, with HPG targeting a full-time Xfinity Series campaign in 2025.
