Julia Louis-Dreyfus Announces New Comedy Series After Emmy-Winning Streak

Los Angeles, May 1, 2025 – Emmy-winning actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus is returning to television with a brand-new comedy series, Laughing Matters, set to premiere on HBO next fall. The news comes just months after her acclaimed performance in the drama Tuesday, which earned her widespread praise for her dramatic range.

The Veep and Seinfeld star will not only headline the series but also serve as an executive producer. According to HBO, Laughing Matters will follow a once-famous comedian (Louis-Dreyfus) attempting to revive her career while navigating the chaotic world of modern-day entertainment.

'I’m thrilled to be back in comedy, where I can make people laugh and also explore the absurdity of this industry we’re in,' Louis-Dreyfus said in a statement. 'Plus, it’s fun to play someone who’s a little desperate—it’s not too far from my own experiences.'

The series reunites her with Veep showrunner David Mandel, who will direct the pilot. HBO has already ordered a 10-episode season, with production set to begin this summer.

Fans and critics alike are buzzing about Louis-Dreyfus’ return to her comedic roots. After her dramatic turn in Tuesday and her poignant 2023 memoir No Fun, many wondered if she would step away from humor. Instead, she’s diving back in—proving once again why she holds the record for the most Emmy wins by a performer (11 and counting).

Laughing Matters is set to debut in November 2025. Until then, fans can catch Louis-Dreyfus in her upcoming guest appearance on Curb Your Enthusiasm’s final season this summer.
