According to campus lore, the college’s original founders had hidden a precious artifact—a golden key—somewhere on the grounds. The key was said to unlock a secret chamber beneath Founders Hall, where untold treasures (or perhaps dangerous secrets) lay waiting. Over the years, students had searched for it, but none had succeeded.

The Discovery

One rainy October evening, a first-year student named Eli Carter stumbled upon an old, leather-bound journal in the depths of Lutnick Library. The journal belonged to Samuel Whitmore, a Haverford student from the 1890s, who claimed to have found clues to the key’s location.

The journal spoke of riddles hidden in the college’s architecture—symbols carved into stone, Latin inscriptions near the Duck Pond, and a strange alignment of shadows at sunset near Barclay Hall. Eli, a history major with a knack for puzzles, became obsessed.
