Virginia Tech Star Georgia Amoore Announces Transfer to Defending National Champions

In a stunning move that has sent shockwaves through women’s college basketball, Virginia Tech’s standout point guard Georgia Amoore has announced her decision to transfer to the University of Connecticut, joining the defending national champion Huskies for her final year of eligibility.

Amoore, the All-ACC First Team selection and one of the most electrifying guards in the nation, entered the transfer portal last week after leading the Hokies to back-to-back Elite Eight appearances. The Australian native averaged 17.8 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game this past season, solidifying her reputation as one of the top playmakers in the sport.

UConn head coach Geno Auriemma praised Amoore’s addition: 'Georgia is a winner. Her leadership, scoring, and ability to make big plays in big moments are exactly what we need. We’re thrilled to welcome her to Storrs.'

The move positions UConn as an early favorite for the 2026 title, with Amoore expected to form a dynamic backcourt duo with rising sophomore Sarah Strong. Meanwhile, Virginia Tech faces a major rebuild after also losing All-American center Elizabeth Kitley to graduation.
