Beloved KROQ Mascot 'Jed the Fish' Passes Away at 45

Los Angeles, CA – April 15, 2025 – Jed the Fish, the iconic animated mascot of legendary Los Angeles radio station KROQ (106.7 FM), has died at the age of 45. A fixture of Southern California rock radio for decades, Jed became a cultural symbol of alternative music and the station’s irreverent spirit.

Originally introduced in 1980, Jed the Fish was created by KROQ DJ Jed Gould (also known as 'The Fish') as a whimsical alter ego. The animated fish—wearing sunglasses and a punk-rock attitude—quickly became synonymous with the station’s edgy, freeform programming. Over the years, Jed appeared in countless station promos, merchandise, and even made cameos in TV shows and music videos.
