FDA Recalls Eye Care Products Over Safety Concerns

FDA Orders Recall of Popular Eye Care Products Following Safety Audit

Washington, D.C. – May 14, 2025 – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a mandatory recall for several eye care products after an audit revealed potential contamination and safety concerns. The affected products include popular lubricating eye drops, redness relievers, and prescription ointments manufactured by ClearSight Solutions, a major pharmaceutical company.

Audit Findings Prompt Recall

The FDA’s inspection uncovered multiple violations at ClearSight Solutions' manufacturing facility, including inadequate sterilization processes and possible bacterial contamination in some batches. Laboratory tests detected traces of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacteria that can cause severe eye infections, particularly in individuals with weakened immune systems or pre-existing eye conditions.

'Consumers should immediately stop using these products and consult their healthcare providers if they experience any symptoms such as eye pain, redness, blurred vision, or discharge,' said Dr. Lisa Monroe, an FDA spokesperson.

The recall includes the following products sold nationwide and online:

ClearSight MoistureDrops (Lot numbers: CS2024A through CS2024L)

ClearSight Redness Relief (Lot numbers: CRR2024B through CRR2024G)

VisiCare Prescription Ointment (Lot numbers: VPO2024M through VPO2024T)

Company Response

ClearSight Solutions has halted production and distribution of the affected items, stating they are cooperating fully with the FDA. 'We deeply regret any concern this may cause our customers and are working to ensure all potentially compromised products are removed from shelves,' said CEO Mark Henderson.

This marks the third major eye care product recall in the past two years, raising concerns about manufacturing oversight in the pharmaceutical industry. The FDA has announced plans for stricter inspections of ocular health products in the coming months.
