Elizabeth Olsen Announces New Project: A Directorial Debut with Feminist Thriller

Los Angeles, March 29, 2025 — Elizabeth Olsen, best known for her iconic role as Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is stepping behind the camera for her directorial debut. The Emmy-nominated actress revealed in an exclusive interview with Variety that she will helm The Silent Pact, a feminist psychological thriller set to begin production this fall.

Olsen, 36, has been quietly developing the project for over two years, co-writing the script with Mare of Easttown scribe Brad Ingelsby. The film follows a reclusive linguist (rumored to be played by The Crown’s Claire Foy) who uncovers a clandestine network of women taking vigilante justice into their own hands.

'I’ve always been drawn to complex female characters, and directing allows me to explore their stories in a deeper, more visceral way,' Olsen said. 'This isn’t just about revenge—it’s about silence, complicity, and what happens when the system fails.'

The project has already sparked Oscar buzz, with A24 securing distribution rights after a competitive bidding war. Olsen’s WandaVision collaborator Jac Schaeffer will produce, alongside Promising Young Woman’s Margot Robbie.

Fans can next see Olsen in The Last Days of the Romanovs, a historical drama where she plays Tsarina Alexandra, due this December. But with The Silent Pact, she’s poised to join the ranks of actor-turned-director powerhouses like Greta Gerwig and Bradley Cooper.

'I’m terrified, but in the best way,' Olsen admitted. 'It’s time to trust my own voice.'

Production begins October 2025. Release slated for late 2026.
