Brooklyn Half Marathon 2025 Draws Record Crowds Amid Perfect Running Conditions

Brooklyn, NY – May 17, 2025 – Thousands of runners flooded the streets of Brooklyn this morning for the annual Brooklyn Half Marathon, one of New York City’s most beloved road races. Under clear skies and mild temperatures, participants set off from Prospect Park, weaving through iconic neighborhoods before finishing at the Coney Island boardwalk.

Record Turnout and Fast Finishes

This year’s race saw a record-breaking 27,000 registered runners, with elite athletes and casual joggers alike taking on the 13.1-mile course. Kenyan runner Evans Chebet shattered the men’s course record with a blistering time of 1:01:45, while American distance star Emily Sisson claimed the women’s title in 1:09:12, just seconds off her own record set in 2023.

'The energy was incredible,' said Chebet after his victory. 'The crowd support kept me pushing all the way to the finish.'

Community Spirit on Full Display

Spectators lined the route, cheering on runners with signs, music, and even homemade snacks. Local businesses embraced the event, offering discounts to participants and volunteers. The post-race festival at Coney Island featured live music, food trucks, and a celebratory atmosphere as finishers collected their medals.

'This is my third Brooklyn Half, and it never gets old,' said Maria Gonzalez, a Brooklyn resident who completed the race with a personal best. 'Running through my own neighborhood with everyone cheering—it’s magical.'

A Focus on Accessibility and Inclusion

Race organizers, NYRR (New York Road Runners), emphasized this year’s efforts to make the event more inclusive, with expanded wheelchair divisions and additional resources for runners with disabilities. A charity initiative also raised over $1.2 million for local youth running programs and community health initiatives.

'The Brooklyn Half is more than just a race—it’s a celebration of our city’s diversity and resilience,' said NYRR CEO Rob Simmelkjaer.

With another successful edition in the books, runners are already looking ahead to next year’s event. Registration for the 2026 Brooklyn Half Marathon is expected to open this fall, with anticipation building for another unforgettable race through the borough’s vibrant streets.
