Gilbert Burns Secures Dominant Victory at UFC Fight Night, Eyes Title Shot

Las Vegas, NV – May 17, 2025 – Brazilian welterweight contender Gilbert Burns delivered a spectacular performance last night at UFC Fight Night, defeating rising star Jaron 'The Problem' Parker via third-round submission, further solidifying his case for a title shot.

Fighting in the co-main event at the UFC Apex, Burns (24-6) showcased his trademark aggression and grappling prowess, overwhelming Parker (12-3) with relentless pressure before locking in a fight-ending rear-naked choke at 3:22 of the third round.

'I came here to prove I’m the best in this division,' Burns said in his post-fight interview. 'I respect everyone, but I want that title shot. Leon Edwards, Shavkat [Rakhmonov], whoever has the belt—I’m coming!'

The victory marks Burns’ third win in his last four fights, with his only recent loss coming against undefeated phenom Shavkat Rakhmonov in a hard-fought battle last year. With reigning champion Leon Edwards set to defend his title against Belal Muhammad later this year, Burns is positioning himself as a top contender for the winner.

UFC President Dana White praised Burns’ performance, hinting that 'Durinho' could be next in line. 'Gilbert’s a dog, man. He’s always in exciting fights, and he’s got that Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt that’s dangerous for anyone,' White told reporters. 'We’ll see how things play out, but he’s definitely in the mix.'

Fans and analysts are now buzzing about a potential Burns vs. Edwards matchup, which would pit the Brazilian’s explosive grappling against the champion’s elite striking and defensive skills.

For now, Burns is enjoying the victory but remains focused on the ultimate goal. 'I’ve been in this game a long time,' he said. 'The belt is the mission, and I won’t stop until I get it.'
