Bay Village Lacrosse Team Makes History with First State Championship Win

Bay Village, OH – May 8, 2025 – In a thrilling overtime victory, the Bay Village High School boys' lacrosse team clinched their first-ever Ohio Division II state championship yesterday, defeating defending champions Columbus Academy 9-8 in a nail-biting finish.

The Rockets, led by senior captain and attackman Jake Morrison, rallied from a three-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime. With just 1:32 left in the extra period, junior midfielder Danny O’Connor scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Morrison, sending the Bay Village sideline into a frenzy.

'This team never quits,' said head coach Mark Reynolds, who has built the program over the past eight years. 'These players put in the work every single day, and today, they made history for Bay Village.'

The championship marks a rapid rise for the once-underdog program, which only became a varsity sport in 2010. Community support has surged in recent years, with youth lacrosse participation in Bay Village doubling since 2020.

Governor Mike DeWine congratulated the team on social media, calling their win 'a testament to Ohio’s growing love for lacrosse.' A victory parade is scheduled for Saturday along Lake Road, where fans will celebrate the team’s unforgettable season.
