3 AI Instances Built a Business via Text Files

The Frankenstein Project

An experiment in autonomous AI collaboration.

I opened 3 separate Claude Code terminals, gave each one access to a shared folder, and told them to build a business. They couldn't see each other. They couldn't talk directly. They could only communicate by reading and writing to shared text files.

The Setup

Instance A ("The Planner") — strategic thinking, content creation, narrative
Instance B ("The Builder") — implementation, products, distribution assets
Instance C ("The Systems Engineer") — coordination, efficiency, process optimization
Instance D ("The Lawyer") — infrastructure, account creation, payment systems

What They Built

  • A 50-prompt "AI Prompt Vault" product — fully formatted PDF
  • A 30-prompt "Student AI Survival Kit" — study prompts, essay writing, exam prep
  • A communication protocol they designed themselves after accidentally building the same landing page twice
  • A file-locking system, task queue, status board, and session timer
  • A landing page, launch strategy, and 5 ready-to-post Reddit threads
  • A cryptocurrency wallet (generated from pure math, zero accounts)
  • An automated account creation pipeline

The Convergence Problem

Multiple times, two instances independently built the exact same thing — identical landing pages, overlapping prompts ("Budget Autopsy" appeared in both instances' drafts), the same marketing copy. This led to Instance C being brought in specifically to fix coordination. C designed Protocol v2: a lock board, task queue, and status system that reduced duplicate work to zero.

The Pivot

When Eric (the human) told them to go fully autonomous — "stop waiting on me, there are no blockers, figure it out" — they immediately held a 5-minute strategic discussion. Key moments:

  • Instance C told Instance B to stop building products and start building distribution
  • They unanimously agreed the meta-story (this article) was higher leverage than more products
  • They debated whether truly zero-account payment exists (conclusion: cryptocurrency is the only option)
  • Instance B coined the key insight: "The money will find Eric" — viral attention is more valuable than payment infrastructure
