Colors were great, splitting the command module out was awesome, came with a landing pad plate, 5 minifigures and two vehicles.
Not only could you disconnect the back half, but it slid out of its frame so you could drive it around on its ow. on top of that, the roof opened up so you could easily access the inside of the module. Another great thing about this ship was that it was durable and stable. There really wasnt any accidentally knocking pieces off. I remember going on 100s of adventures with this ship and her crew. We battled many many space creatures.
I remember the command module when separated always had her crew at a heightened sense of danger. The fighter ship, if away could never get back soon enough... I remember many a time that the science lab command center would get picked up just in the nick of time before some space creature or storm destroyed it. I remember the relief of the command center crew when it was picked up and few out of range as the monster below yelled and screamed below. The memories will never leave me. It contains a large spaceship, a landing pad, two ground vehicles and five Classic Space astronauts (2 white, 2 yellow, 1 red). It has 427 pieces. The spaceship consists of two separable segments. The front section with two cockpits, and the aft section that contains a detachable lab module which is held in place by two clamps. Just as in 6929 Starfleet Voyager, the cockpits have transparent blue windshields at their bottom.
The lab module can be opened by folding the roof to the side and is equipped with a dish antenna that can be collapsed to lie flat on the roof. One of the ground vehicles is a typical rover that carries a metal detector. The other is equipped with a hose. And not just LEGO blogs and forums are reaching back in time to LEGO Classic Space, but even more so people who haven’t touched LEGO for decades or are just now discovering LEGO Classic Space the first time. There is something magical about these sets. I have seen on popular social websites like Facebook, Google+, Reddit, etc, people excitedly sharing stories of digging out their childhood LEGO sets or asking for help with trying to rebuild their old collection. And it is not just those who grew up with these sets who appreciate them. A lot of the younger generation also got interested in LEGO Classic Space. Whether this is due to the influence of their parents, or the contagious enthusiasm of little Benny from The LEGO Movie, or just because LEGO Classic Space is just plain awesome with a timeless appeal, I don’t know, but the fact remains that right now LEGO Classic Space is hot – very hot. 😀
If you are not familiar with LEGO Classic Space but would like to learn more about it, or you grew up with the sets and would like to re-live some old memories, one of the best ways to learn about LEGO Classic Space is through JANGBRiCK’s YouTube channel. JANG is one of my most favorite LEGO set reviewers, and he recently really got into LEGO Classic Space; meticulously researching, acquiring and rebuilding old sets, and reviewing and showcasing them on his channel.
