In a survey out today 6% of teenage girls admit to having sex before the age of 12.
Two-thirds of sexually active under 18-year-olds lost their virginity before the age of 16.
And 40% of the young respondents said they were less than 12 years old when they first kissed a boy.
Teen magazine Sugar surveyed 1,770 girls between the ages of 12 and 18 and found that 15% admitted to having sex.
Seven per cent admitted to having had sex with “10 or more” boys and 18% said they first had sex with a boy who was not a boyfriend.
Last week it was revealed that 13-year-old Alfie Patten had fathered a baby girl. He was just 12 when he and 15-year-old Chantelle Steadman conceived baby Maisie.
Despite the risks it seems some parents adopt a relaxed attitude to their daughters’ relationships.
The survey found that 11% of girls were allowed to have boys stay the night in their bedroom. Another 34% could take boys into the bedroom and close the door and 27% had boys to stay overnight in a separate room.
Only 16% are banned from having boys in their bedroom at all.
Parents might struggle to get to know their daughters’ boyfriends as 54% of teenage girls said they would never let them meet a boyfriend and 21% would not admit to having one.
Only 11% of parents insist on meeting the boys their children date.
One teenage respondent said: “Cause my parents are so horrifically embarrassing, I would never live it down, I mention a boy’s name and all I hear is ‘Lauren’s got a boyfriend’ it’s so stupid.”
Girls admitted to feeling under pressure to have sex and 47% said that the pressure comes from their peers.
Those who do have sex found that it did not make them happy. Twenty two per cent said they felt “ashamed”, 21% felt “used” and 26% admitted to feeling “worried”.
One respondent said: “I was pressured into it by other people at school, lots of people at my school have done it before, and it wasn’t a very good time. We have been on/off for a year and we weren’t together when we did it and I thought it would make him like me more and stop messing me around, but afterward he stopped talking to me and now we hardly talk anymore.
“I was also worried that my parents would find out, because I was stupid to do it so young and I know if they find out they will be really disappointed in me, and they would go mad. I wish I had waited.”
Editor Annabel Brog, said: “Schools, the Government, media and parents all need to take responsibility for ensuring teenagers get clear mental, emotional and physical boundaries about what is and isn’t acceptable when it comes to dating and sex.
“Sugar is constantly endeavouring to raise levels of self respect among teenage girls so that they have the confidence and courage to say ‘no’.
Sugar says Always be S.A.F.E before sex – Sure of the facts, Age 16 or over, Free from pressure, Emotionally sorted.”

14-year-old boy faces charges for having sex with 12-year-old girl.
HOUSTON, Texas -- A mother fears her 14-year-old son may have to register as a sex offender for having sex with his 12-year-old girlfriend.
The mother, who spoke to Eyewitness News under the condition of anonymity, said her son was detained and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child a few months ago. The two went to the same middle school and were a grade apart, she said. He was charged because she was 12 and he was a few months older than 14.
If found criminally responsible, there could be a long-term consequence.
"Since he's 14, he's facing the possibility of being put on the sex registry. The sex registry is for people who are absolute criminals, pedophiles, child molesters, dangerous people. The worst of the worst," she said.
There is an exemption for some teens. The so-called Romeo and Juliet law protects those who have consensual sex with someone within three years of their age. So, in Texas a 17-year-old can legally have sex with a 14-year-old , but if either party is under 14, like the girl in this case, the law does not apply.
"Every parent needs to know if you have a son or daughter who's sexually active," she warned. "It terrifies us. It terrifies him. He won't have a future. He won't be able to go to school. He won't be able to get a job. He won't be able to get a job digging ditches because he won't be able to pass a background check."
That's why she and her attorney are speaking up.
"Where's the common sense? It's incomprehensible we're doing this to children in our society and something needs to change," said Joe Gutheinz, the boy's attorney.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office filed the case. A spokesman declined to comment due to juvenile privacy concerns.
Juvenile court judges decide whether delinquents are placed on the registry, which has happened, according to two attorneys who defend juveniles.
The boy's mother is asking for compassion.
"Everybody was young. Everybody has a past. Everybody has made mistakes," she added.

'There are clearly pressing concerns for the Queen's health -- much more explicitly put than before,' the BBC reported.

Planned Parenthood is planning on spending $50 million on elections this fall, an unprecedented amount for a midterm cycle.
A new report from the BBC says that a sex site is exploiting children by posting explicit videos of underage children.
The site Only Fans allows users to create their own material and sell it to subscribers, the BBC reported.
OnlyFans grabs 20 percent of the money.
It says it bars people under 18 from having accounts and says it has procedures in place to ensure its rules are followed. The BBC, however, found multiple instances of people under 18 making explicit videos.
The BBC report did not provide names of those it said were breaking the site’s rules, but it noted that many of those under 18 are boasting to either friends in school or the community about the cash they are making by having sex for others to see.
“It is increasingly clear that OnlyFans is being used by children,” says chief constable Simon Bailey, the UK’s child protection lead.
“The company is not doing enough to put in place the safeguards that prevent children exploiting the opportunity to generate money, but also for children to be exploited.”
The BBC report gives an instance of a 17-year-old girl in England, whose bank account was frozen because so much cash was coming in.
The report quoted her mother, whose name was given as Caitlyn, expressing shock like “any parent.”
“I don’t understand why people are paying so much money for this,” she told the outlet.
After OnlyFans was finally aware she was underage, her account was blocked, but the images from it are all over the internet — something the girl is having trouble facing.
“She won’t go out at all, really,” Caitlyn said. “She doesn’t want to be seen.”
The BBC said Hertfordshire Police told it that a 14-year-old girl used her grandmother’s passport as a way to create an account.
In some cases, underage teens are appearing in explicit content on accounts owned by adults.
The report noted a case it said involved a Nevada teen who claimed to have gotten $5,000 off of one video.
The BBC report said that a 16-year-old at a London school bragged about the money she made to counselors there, and that a 12-year-old girl had been trying to meet adult explicit content creators.
A 13-year-old who was posting on OnlyFans told counselors at Childline, an online counseling service in Britain, about her activities. The notes were shared with the BBC without any identifying details.
“I don’t wanna talk about the types of pictures I post on there and I know it’s not appropriate for kids my age to be doing this, but it’s an easy way to make money,” the girl was quoted as saying.
“Some of the girls have thousands of followers on Instagram and they must be raking it in,” she said. “I wanna be just like them.”
Bailey said it was “increasingly clear” that OnlyFans is used by children.
“The company are not doing enough to put in place the safeguards that prevent children exploiting the opportunity to generate money, but also for children to be exploited,” he said.
Further, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said missing children are now appearing on the site.
“In 2019 there were around a dozen children known to be missing being linked with content on OnlyFans,” said Staca Shehan, vice president of the center. “Last year the number of those cases nearly tripled.”
OnlyFans issued a statement to the BBC that said, “We use a combination of state-of-the-art technology together with human monitoring and review to prevent children under the age of 18 from sharing content on OnlyFans.”
“This is something that we take very seriously. We constantly review our systems to ensure they are as robust as possible,” it said.

SOUTH AMHERST, Ohio – Authorities in the small Lorain County town of South Amherst are investigating the circumstances that led to the creation of a video showing underage teen-agers having sex while young classmates watched, 19/43 News' Bill Younkin reported.
The teens involved were all students at Firelands High School. Firelands students, including senior Jim Wilgor, said that they've heard about the videotape, which shows a 15-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy having sex in front of other students.
"I don't think it's right, and I think they should be punished," Wilgor said.
Deputies said that the incident apparently took place on a late Friday night in the 16-year-old boy's home.
"There are quite a few people involved, as far as witnesses go -- witnesses who were there," Sheriff's investigator Det. Carl Yost said.
Yost said he believes that the girl was a voluntary participant. He said that the girl's mother found the tape, and called the sheriff's department.
The South Amherst community, including those people at Dewey's Barber Shop on Tuesday, is just starting to hear about the investigation, and they are in shock because their idea of children at play certainly doesn't include what is on the tape.
"It's ridiculous," Paul Shank said. "They have no morals whatsoever."
"It's unbelievable," barber Dewey Acord said. "It just doesn't make sense for young kids to get involved in stuff like that."
Now, the teens face a lot of questioning by not only detectives, but their parents as well.
Investigators said that they hope to wrap up the investigation and hand over the facts to the county prosecutor by the end of the week.
