Miami Hurricanes’ Xavier Restrepo Shines in Season Opener with Career-High Performance

Coral Gables, FL — September 2, 2024 — Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Xavier Restrepo made a statement in the team’s season opener against the Florida Gators, delivering a career-best performance that electrified fans at Hard Rock Stadium.

The senior pass-catcher hauled in 12 receptions for 174 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Hurricanes to a thrilling 31-27 victory over their in-state rivals. Restrepo’s chemistry with quarterback Cam Ward was on full display, as the duo connected on multiple clutch plays, including a 45-yard touchdown strike in the third quarter that shifted momentum in Miami’s favor.

'X is a warrior,' said head coach Mario Cristobal after the game. 'His preparation, his route-running, his hands—everything showed up tonight. He’s the heartbeat of our offense.'

Restrepo, a former four-star recruit from Deerfield Beach, has steadily developed into one of the ACC’s most reliable receivers. After a breakout 2023 season (85 catches, 1,092 yards, 6 TDs), his opening-night dominance has NFL scouts buzzing about his draft stock.

When asked about his big game, Restrepo credited his teammates. 'It’s not about me—it’s about this team. We’ve been grinding all offseason for moments like this,' he told reporters.

With Miami now 1-0 and Restrepo emerging as an early Biletnikoff Award contender, Hurricanes fans have plenty to be excited about as the season progresses.
