Let us be the first to welcome you to Ouray, the “Outdoor Recreation Capitol of Colorado.” Centrally located in Southwest Colorado, Ouray is the perfect basecamp for your explorations, offering a treasure trove of unique experiences all year long.
Ouray is a high alpine community sitting at 7,800 feet in elevation. Set in a geographic bowl formed by rugged and steep mountainsides that lead up to jagged 12,000 to 13,000-foot-high peaks with several creeks cascading down through valleys and canyons into the city.
Guests to our community come from all over the world to experience Ouray in its entirety. Whether that be soaking in the Ouray Hot Springs, hiking our trails, learning about the history of the Ute Indians and a miner's life, shopping on our unique Main Street, or seeing our 3 W's: wildlife, wildflowers, and waterfalls.
Let our business help give you a good night’s sleep. We have many options for lodging that range in experience. From standard motels to charming bed and breakfasts, historic hotels, to cabins and condos, the choice is up to you. Driving your RV to town? We have places for your house on wheels. Looking for something historical, pet-friendly, home-like? We have it all! You’ll be welcomed like family even if it is your first trip to Ouray.
With a variety of choices, your appetite won’t get bored. Whatever you're craving, from burritos to beef Wellington-- our local restaurants aim to please. You can start your day with a cup of coffee and a warm croissant from one of our bakeries or partake in a full hearty breakfast. Have a furry-friend with you too? Not to worry, a lot of our restaurants have outdoor seating to ensure dogs “have a seat at the table.” Take a look at our list of Ouray restaurants to plan where you would like to feast.
They don’t call Ouray, Colorado the “Outdoor Recreation Capitol of Colorado,” for no reason. With an adventure for everyone readily available and accessible from downtown, it makes Ouray the prime destination for adventuring, making memories, and checking off bucket list items! This geothermal hot spring allows us access to year-round use. Open everyday of the week, this attraction is fun for the whole family.
Ouray's own wonder of the world, is the culmination of Canyon Creek narrowing and spilling thousands of gallons a minute of water over the falls. At this most spectacular geological formation, the 285-foot waterfall plummets into a narrow quartzite canyon. The narrow rock walls tower over the falls by nearly 100 feet!
This 5.8 mile trail is our most popular hike by far. With the option to enter/exit at multiple points allows hikers to do what they are comfortable with. You will observe two waterfalls, mountain scenes, two canyons, cross a high-bridge, and have fun! Did we mention this hike is dog-friendly?
The sound, seating, stage and experience of witnessing live arts at The Wright Opera House is like no other. Since the late 1800s this venue has provided the City of Ouray and its citizens a place to gather, share and socialize.
The Museum features mining, ranching and railroading, the three main means of employment in Ouray's early history. It houses many artifacts dating back to Ouray's earliest days which began in 1875. There are large displays of minerals and Indian artifacts in the building. Plan to visit this fascinating museum. You'll want to set aside a minimum of one hour for your visit. Many tourists and residents of Ouray spend several hours touring the Museum.
Ouray is blessed to be the home of many outstanding artists, craftsmen and innovative shop owners. Unlike the sameness of items found at your neighborhood mall chain stores, shops in Ouray offer distinctive and exclusive gifts. Strolling through our shops and galleries, you’ll find high-quality items that could never be found elsewhere.
Fun and adventure are never far away in the San Juan Mountains. Contact our local guides and rental companies for everything that you need for your Ouray adventure, whether it's a Jeep, climbing equipment, skis or bike. But don’t forget about the winter fun too! Ouray is home to world class ice climbing and backcountry skiing.
