Local Woman Completes Her 'Life List' After 20 Years of Adventures

Portland, OR — At age 45, Miranda Kessler has finally checked off the last item on her 'Life List,' a carefully curated collection of 100 dreams, goals, and experiences she set for herself two decades ago.

Kessler, a high school teacher, first created her Life List at 25 after reading an article about setting lifelong goals. What started as a simple bucket list evolved into a roadmap for her most meaningful adventures.

'I never expected to finish it,' Kessler admitted, laughing. 'Some items were easy, like 'learn to bake sourdough bread.' Others took years, like 'hike the Inca Trail' or 'volunteer in another country.' The last one was 'publish a novel,' and seeing my book in print was surreal.'

Her list included a mix of personal, professional, and philanthropic goals, from 'run a marathon' (completed in 2012) to 'adopt a rescue dog' (meet Baxter, her loyal Lab mix). Some items were whimsical ('ride in a hot air balloon'), while others pushed her out of her comfort zone ('give a TEDx talk').

Friends and family have cheered her on over the years, with some even joining her quests. Her sister, Emily, accompanied her on a trip to see the Northern Lights—item #57.

Kessler’s accomplishment has inspired her students, many of whom have started their own Life Lists. 'It’s not about ticking boxes,' she says. 'It’s about designing a life full of purpose and joy.'

What’s next? 'A new list, of course,' she grins. 'Maybe just 50 items this time.'
