Our panel tested the best sex toys to try with a partner
If you're looking for something new to try in the bedroom or you’re simply curious, there’s never been a better time to shop for sex toys to use with your partner. But if you’re at all anxious about broaching the subject with your other half, let’s get one thing straight: investing in a bedroom gadget of any description does not mark you (or your lover) as deficient. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Sex toys for couples come with a number of mind-body benefits including shared intimacy, stronger orgasms and best of all, they’re fun! Inviting a vibrator, love eggs, or even an app-controlled gadget into the bedroom could serve to heighten the entire experience. So, if you’re on board with the concept but don’t know where to start, we’ve done the legwork for you. With the help of a panel of testers, the Good Housekeeping Institute has put a range of sex toys for couples through their paces, assessing everything from cost to battery power, clitoral precision, size, weight, vibration speed and simply what feels good. Keep scrolling for our pick of the best sex toys for sharing.
Here are the GHI’s winning vibrators for couples:
Technically you can use any sex toy with your partner, but some are better suited to sharing. Our testing panel tried 95 vibrators across the main categories. Here’s a quick summary:
Clitoral stimulation vibrators: These come in all shapes and sizes including wands, bullets , pebbles, tongues and even lipsticks, and they are all designed with direct clitoral stimulation in mind. They are all well suited to partnered sex, and thanks to their small size, many can be used in conjunction with penetration.
Classic vibrators: These longer phallic-shaped toys are designed to be inserted as well as used externally, and often have a tapered tip for ease of use. Rabbit vibrators are similar in that they're also insertable, but they come with the addition of a clit-stimulator along the shaft, often in the shape of bunny ears.
Wearable vibrators : Particularly well suited to partnered sex, remote control and app-controlled toys fit into the wearable category, as well as finger vibes, vibrating panties, strap-ons and vibrating cock rings.
G-spot vibrators: These internal-use sex toys have a curved tip in order to stimulate your G-spot , the name given to the cluster of nerves on the internal front of the vaginal wall, where some women experience increased sensation.
Vibrating l ove eggs : Also know as Kegel balls, these spherical toys are designed to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles, but many people enjoy using them as part of partnered sex too.
Dimensions: Check the dimensions to make you’re happy with the size – it may be bigger or smaller than you first thought. Make sure you like the way it looks, too.
Settings, speeds and power: Look at the range of settings and speeds on offer, and the way the vibrator is powered. These days, most sex toys are USB rechargeable, but battery-powered toys do still exist so it's worth checking before you make a purchase.
Noise levels: If you're concerned about the sound, shop for silent vibrators or check the product description for the decibel level; anything 40db or below will be exceptionally quiet.
Material: Plastic is a good choice for most as it’s firm and hard to the touch. Silicone is widely used for its velvety feel and skin-safe properties, and often ranks higher on comfort, with many well-known brands only using “medical-grade silicone”. Skin-safe rubber is softer and more flexible.
The Good Housekeeping Institute’s panel of more than 60 women have tested market-leading sex toys to bring you their pick of the best vibrators for couples.
Each vibrator was tested by at least five people over the span of a few weeks, with panellists tasked with trying every speed setting, vibration pattern and any other innovative features on offer. They also kept a keen eye on battery life and claims such as waterproofing.
Testers were asked to score each product on its ease of use, design, functionality and performance, as well as providing feedback on what they liked and aspects that could be improved.
Only the best vibrators for couples made our final list, offering a pleasurable experience and plenty of innovation while still being accessible and easy to use.
The Le Wand is the highest-scoring sex toy we have ever tested, and for good reason. Our panellists were impressed by the amount of speed settings and distinctive vibration patterns there were to experiment with, allowing them to achieve orgasms that were both faster and more intense than when using other toys. They also said that, thanks to Le Wand’s larger size and sole-focus on clitoral stimulation, it was a lot of fun to introduce into partner play.
The clean design and rose gold accents emphasised the fact that this is a quality toy, the controls are accessible and easy to use, and the long battery life won’t let you down. It’s on the larger side but if you’ve got space in your bedside drawer then we would recommend treating yourself to this one.
Key specifications Type: Clitoral Waterproof: No Flexibility: Firm Material: Silicone Travel lock: Yes Battery type: Rechargeable Size (cm): 37.5(L) x 9.5(W) x 12.5(C) Vibration modes: 10 speeds, 20 patterns
This is our joint runner-up vibrator for couples. Our panel loved the remote control, giving your partner the chance to join in and adjust the settings, while 89% of testers achieved a more intense orgasm. It comes with an intelligent mode too, which automates vibrations from beginning to orgasm, so you don't have to worry about changing the settings.
Key specifications Type: Egg Waterproof: Yes Flexibility: Firm Material: Silicone Travel lock: No Battery type: Rechargeable Size (cm): 8(L) x 3.2(W) x 3.2(D) Vibration modes: 10
Our other joint runner-up vibrator for couples is larger and offers a blended experience. The wider, bulbed end is designed to hit the G-spot, while the thinner, smoother clitoral vibrator adapts to your body shape.
It’s a great option for couples in long-distance relationships, as partners can operate the settings through a smartphone app or with the help of a discreet “pen”. Our testers found that it provided a completely different experience compared to other vibrators on the market and said it was beautifully designed.
Key specifications Type: Vaginal Waterproof: Yes Flexibility: Flexible Material: Silicone Travel lock: No Battery type: Rechargeable Size (cm): 9(L) x 9(W) x 4(D) Vibration modes: 12
Hand the reins over to your partner with this innovative app-controlled vibrator from Lovense. The app controls can work from any distance too, so long-distance couples can get in on the fun.
The Lush 3’s curved design provides simultaneous internal and external stimulation, with the egg vibrator designed to target the G-spot while a smaller vibrating pebble sits on the clitoris.
Our panel found it easy to switch on and get started, also praising the feel of the soft silicone. A couple of testers said the fit wasn’t quite right, but most found it sat snugly against their body. And, for those who found a good fit, reviews of this vibrator were nothing short of glowing.
Key specifications Type: Egg Waterproof: Yes Flexibility: Firm Material: Silicone Travel lock: No Battery type: Rechargeable Size (cm): 20.3(L) x 11.4(W) x 11.4(C) Vibration modes: 3 speeds, 4 patterns
If clitoral stimulators like bullets have never been quite your style, it’s time you gave the We-Vibe Rave a go. Our panel found the clean design, size and curved shape combined to provide direct stimulation to the G-spot, maximising pleasure for those who prefer internal stimulation.
The ability to link the vibrator to an app was also enjoyed by testers, who liked being able to make their own vibration patterns and pass over control to their partner. Our only complaint was how loud this toy was. But, if noise isn’t a concern for you, this is a top option.
Key specifications Type: G-spot Waterproof: No Flexibility: Firm Material: Silicone Travel lock: No Battery type: Rechargeable Size (cm): 19(L) x 11.4(W) x N/A(C) Vibration modes: 1 speed, 10 patterns
All of our testers praised this vibrator for its discreet appearance and for being more attractive than expected. It has a good range of speeds and vibration settings - three speeds and seven pulsating patterns - and it was comfortable to use.
From our panel, 70% said this egg-shaped vibrator helped them to achieve a more intense orgasm and they all championed how quiet it was, saying they didn't feel conscious that it would be too loud if someone was in the next room.
Key specifications Type: Egg Waterproof: Yes Flexibility: Firm Material: Silicone Travel lock: No Battery type: Rechargeable Size (cm): 7.5(L) x 3.8(W) x 3.8(D) Vibration modes: 10
For a different approach, try this knicker vibrator. Simply place the vibrator in the included lace knickers and give the remote control to your partner, who can use it from up to eight metres away.
The lace knickers come with silk bows on the sides, which testers said felt luxurious. They were also pleasantly surprised with the vibrator's performance, although one person said it was difficult to adjust the underwear into the best position. When secured properly though, testers found it both stimulating and satisfying.
This vibrator achieved a high satisfaction level of 8 out of 10 in our test, with 86% of our panel saying they would recommend this to a friend. The product comes with a discreet storage case, too.
Key specifications Type: Clitoral Waterproof: Yes Flexibility: Firm Material: Silicone Travel lock: No Battery type: Rechargeable Size (cm): 10.2(L) x 11.4(W) x 10.2(D) Vibration modes: 20
This bullet vibrator’s performance scored mixed results among testers, with 50% able to orgasm quicker than normal and 60% saying it was more intense. The toy is appealing in appearance though and can be controlled via the attached buttons, a remote control or through a smartphone app, making it ideal for couples.
From our panel, 80% said it was pleasurable to use and had a good range of speed and vibration options. The same amount of people would encourage others to try it.
Key specifications Type: Vaginal and clitoral Waterproof: Yes Flexibility: Firm Material: Silicone/ABS Travel lock: No Battery type: Rechargable Size (cm): 21.5(L) x 3.3(W) x 3.3(D) Vibrator modes: 11
The couples in our testing panel enjoyed using this egg vibrator to give their arousal levels a major boost. It’s designed to sit against the G-spot, and comes with a separate controller that leaves you at the mercy of your partner by allowing them to switch between six speeds and 10 patterns from up to five metres away.
Panellists liked the size of this egg vibrator, also appreciating the soft silicone casing and lightweight design. However, it split opinion when it came to performance. While some said it didn’t always deliver the promised pleasure, others said they planned to keep using it beyond the trial period to spice things up in the bedroom.
Key specifications Type: Egg Waterproof: Yes Flexibility: Firm Material: Hard plastic Travel lock: No Battery type: 2 x AAA Size (cm): 7.6(L) x 10.8(W) x (C) Vibration modes: 6 speeds, 10 patterns
