Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. When you register, you get our free weekly -ish snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in Username:- Password:. Or: Register to be a proper snow-head, all official-like! Prev topic :: Next topic. Poster: A snowHead. I'm organising a group trip and I've been told by one of the party that Val Claret is the place to be for apres-ski and night life. I've had a look round at available chalets and I'm struggling to find much in the town for the price we want to pay. I have found a few really nice chalets a bit further out. I'm starting to think that maybe we should consider Tignes Le Lac. Personally I'm not too bothered by night life; I'm happy to ski and then sit in the chalet drinking wine. I do need to keep the party happy though. Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person. The night life is fine at Le Lac - plenty of bars, and a good range of chalets. If your mates want to party, they will find somewhere to do it in Lac. Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see? Nowhere in Tignes has eve struck me as being a place for exciting night life having said that there are bars in both bits. If nightlife is the most important thing go elsewhere otherwise either will do IMHO, though my experience is somewhat dated. You need to Login to know who's really who. I would agree with T Bar , I have stayed in both and had nights out in either side of the lake, its a bit of a walk back but can be done. Buses run late on on a loop between the two so there is always the bus , but they are less frequant later in the evening. Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do. I agree with all of the above, ie much of a muchness for bars, not the wildest of nightlife etc. You'll need to Register first of course. Tignes isn't the most vibrant place after sunset, but you are probably already aware of this. However, although there are some bars to be found in Le Lac, for night life definitely go to Val Claret. Then you can post your own questions or snow reports I was in VC over the new years week last year. Whilst new years eve was great most other nights tumble weed blew through town! After all it is free. As an ex-seasonnaire I would say le Lac is the better of the two. You'll get to see more forums and be part of the best ski club on the net. Again an ex-seasonnaire here from a few years ago I admit and I'd say there's swings and roundabouts to both, nightlife isn't particularly better in one than the other, both have their own crowd and share of venues but neither is wild. As stated there is also free busses running throughout the day and infrequently during the night like once an hour at night. Lift access isn't really an issue from either spot so I wouldn't worry about that too much, obviously to go up the glacier you need to start at the Val Claret end but you can get there my taking 1 lift up from Le-Lac and sking down. Basically they are pretty similar, you won't really go wrong with either so just choose the place you get the best accommodation and I'm sure you'll be happy. Ski the Net with snowHeads. You go on an activity holiday and cannot manage to walk a few hundred yards on a beautiful moonlit night? Quote: you could also go by bus to Val Claret and take a taxi home for a few nights I'm sure that Tignes advertises on its resort literature that the bus between Val Claret, le Lac and Lavachet runs 24 hrs in the ski season So no cold walking necessary! And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports. Thanks for the info. Is it possible to ski round the lake? I've been trying to work out if it's possible to ski down to Le Lac from the chalet. So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much. Assuming your chalet is where the little yellow house is on that map, no it is not possible to ski around the lake from there unless your into cross country skiing! Unfortunately there are also no lifts directly from that area of Tignes so your best bet in the morning will be to catch the free bus which will take mins to take you to either Le Lac or Val Claret ski area, busses go by every 15mins or so. There is a bus stop a minute or less from your chalet on the main road. Or of course you could walk it which will take mins to each location. They are nice looking chalets in that area, its one of the quieter areas of Tignes, but a little isolated compared to those in Val Claret or Le Lac. You know it makes sense. I have stayed in Val Claret 4 times as the skiing is excellent I actually prefer le Brev but that is just me. If you are a good skier the Espace Killy is so well linked you can get from Le Brev to val in very little time. Being honest Tignes nightlife is fairly dull. I always saw le lac as more restaurants but never stayed there so cannot comment on late night stuff. I think the skiing is much better than the Val d'isere side overall especially the access to the resorts, however if you are taking a maixed group Val d'isere offers a whole lot more as a resort. You cannot ski across the lake, you can walk. Buses run but I am not convinced they are 24 hours. Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:. Crowded House is no more. Buses are 24 hrs through the main part of the season. Yes , just got back from la plagne, usually go to le lac in Tignes , speaking to a skiworld rep I was told crowded house has now closed and the couloir bar the best place in Val claret has been sold on by owner Chris to a german firm and has lost the 'spark' it used to have. Crowded House now closed? I would say Val Claret purely due to the ease of access to the lifts. Nightlife isn't wonderful but there are a few good places in each of the villages, for more detailed info about the resort and nightlife have a look at my review I like Val Claret. But Le Lac is good too. They arent exactly many miles apart David. We've booked a chalet in Le Lac that's about 30m from a lift. New Topic Post Reply. Snow Snow Snow!
