He ate (он поел; to eat /ate, eaten/), drank (попил; to drink /drank, drunk/), and slept on the bed (и /лег/ спать на кровать; to sleep /slept/); and when he woke in the night (а когда он проснулся ночью; to wake /woke, woken/), there was the woman in the room (в комнате находилась /все та же/ женщина) but she was silent and unseen as before (но она молчала и ее не было видно: «была молчаливой и невидимой» как и прежде).
At sunset he was back at the door of the castle; and in he went over the razors and under the needles, sat at the fire, and the table came out before him as on the previous evening. He ate, drank, and slept on the bed; and when he woke in the night, there was the woman in the room but she was silent and unseen as before.
When he went out on the second morning (когда он покинул /замок/: «вышел из /замка/» на второе утро) the king of Erin saw a garden three times more beautiful (король Ирландии увидел сад в три раза более красивый; to see /saw, seen/; time — время, случай; раз, крат) than the one of the day before (чем сад, /который он видел/ накануне). He travelled all day (он проехал весь день), but could not escape (но не смог сбежать /из него/), — could not get out of the garden (не смог выбраться из сада). At sunset he was back at the door of the castle (на закате солнца он /снова/ был у двери замка); in he went over the razors and under the needles (он вошел в /замок/ над лезвиями и под иглами), ate (поел), drank (попил), and slept, as before (и /лег/ спать как и прежде).
When he went out on the second morning the king of Erin saw a garden three times more beautiful than the one of the day before. He travelled all day, but could not escape, — could not get out of the garden. At sunset he was back at the door of the castle; in he went over the razors and under the needles, ate, drank, and slept, as before.
In the middle of the night he woke (посреди ночи он проснулся), and felt the presence of the woman in the room (и ощутил присутствие женщины в комнате). "Well (что ж)," said he, "it is a wonderful thing for me (для меня это удивительно: «удивительное событие для меня»; thing — вещь, предмет; дело, случай) to pass three nights in a room with a woman (провести три ночи в одной комнате с женщиной; to pass — идти, проходить; проводить /время, день и т.п./), and not see her nor know who she is (и /при этом/ не увидеть ее, и не узнать, кто она /такая/)!"
In the middle of the night he woke, and felt the presence of the woman in the room. "Well," said he, "it is a wonderful thing for me to pass three nights in a room with a woman, and not see her nor know who she is!"
"You won't have that to say again, king of Erin (тебе не придется говорить это снова, король Ирландии; to have to do smth. — быть должным, обязанным, вынужденным делать что-л.)," answered a voice (ответил голос). And that moment the room was filled with a bright light (и в тот самый момент комната наполнилась: «была наполнена» ярким светом), and the king looked upon the finest woman (и король взглянул на самую красивую женщину; fine — утонченный, изящный; красивый, имеющий привлекательную внешность) he had ever seen (которую он когда-либо видел; to see /saw, seen/).
"You won't have that to say again, king of Erin," answered a voice. And that moment the room was filled with a bright light, and the king looked upon the finest woman he had ever seen.
