When inside (оказавшись внутри: «когда внутри») he saw a great fire on a broad hearth (он увидел большой огонь, /разведенный на/ широкой плите; hearth — камин = fireplace; каменная плита под очагом), and said to himself (и сказал самому себе), "I'll sit down here (я присяду здесь), dry my clothes (высушу свою одежду), and warm my body at this fire (и согреюсь: «согрею свое тело» у этого огня)."

"Well (что ж)," said he, "I'll go back and sleep in that bed a while (я пойду туда: «назад» и посплю в той постели некоторое время), I'm so tired (я так устал)."
Then he fell to, and ate and drank his fill. When he had grown tired, he looked behind him, and if he did he saw a fine room, and in it a bed covered with gold. "Well," said he, "I'll go back and sleep in that bed a while, I'm so tired."
He stretched himself on the bed and fell asleep (он растянулся на кровати и заснул; to fall /fell, fallen/ — падать; to fall in a state — приходить, впадать в какое-л. состояние; asleep — спящий; to fall asleep — заснуть). In the night he woke up (ночью он проснулся; to wake /woke, woken/), and felt the presence of a woman in the room (и почувствовал, что в комнате находится какая-то женщина: «почувствовал присутствие женщины в комнате»; to feel /felt/ — щупать, ощупывать; чувствовать, ощущать). He reached out his hand towards her and spoke (он протянул к ней свою руку и заговорил; to reach — протягивать, вытягивать /особ. руку/; to speak /spoke, spoken/), but got no answer (но не получил никакого ответа; to get /got/); she was silent (она молчала: «была молчалива»).
He stretched himself on the bed and fell asleep. In the night he woke up, and felt the presence of a woman in the room. He reached out his hand towards her and spoke, but got no answer; she was silent.
