Texas Tech Hires Grant McCasland as New Men’s Basketball Coach

Lubbock, TX – March 30, 2025 – Texas Tech University has officially named Grant McCasland as the new head coach of its men’s basketball program, following an extensive national search. The announcement comes after the Red Raiders parted ways with former coach Mark Adams last season amid a disappointing conference performance.

McCasland, who previously led North Texas to an NCAA Tournament appearance and an NIT championship, brings a reputation for disciplined defense and player development. Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt praised McCasland’s winning pedigree and leadership.

'Coach McCasland has a proven track record of success, both as a recruiter and a tactician,' Hocutt said in a press conference. 'We believe he is the right leader to restore Texas Tech basketball to national prominence.'

McCasland inherits a program that reached the NCAA Championship game in 2019 under Chris Beard but has struggled to maintain consistency in recent years. Fans hope his Texas ties—having coached at Baylor and Midwestern State—will help revive recruiting in the state.

Texas Tech is expected to finalize assistant coaching hires in the coming weeks as McCasland prepares for offseason workouts and roster adjustments.
