No good can come from teen webcam modeling.
The power of young love can be intoxicating, especially when it’s brought to screen with such nuance and respect for raw emotion. Teenage Cocktail taps into the innate appeal of high school love stories but also has a unique edge that makes it a riveting romantic rollercoaster and successful thriller at the same time.
The movie stars Nichole Bloom as Annie, the new girl at school. She has a tough time making friends until she happens upon Jules ( Fabianne Therese ) and an immediate connection ignites between the two. They become fast friends and more, to the point that Annie’s mother ( Michelle Borth ) worries that they’re spending too much time together. Their friendship is pure, but it turns out, Lynn has a right to be concerned because Jules earns her spending money by flaunting herself in front of paying costumers online and Annie can’t resist the temptation to give it a try.
Teenage Cocktail kicks off as a highly captivating high school coming of age story. Annie’s very self-conscious and awkward, but her loving relationship with her family quickly establishes her as a likable lead that you hope grows comfortable enough to come out of her shell. Those qualities perfectly pave the way towards her budding friendship with Jules. You’ll find yourself rooting for the two to hit it off and when they do, you get just as much satisfaction out of it as they do.
If you’re sick of movies featuring a popular girl manipulating the school outcast, Therese’s character and her effect on Annie will be quite refreshing. Jules doesn’t have an agenda. She isn’t trying to recruit Annie for a web modeling scheme. She simply values having someone who’s always there for her, just like Annie. Teenage Cocktail never neglects the fact that Jules has a hold over her, but it’s woven into the narrative in a more subtle way than we’re used to seeing. Annie is obsessed with Jules and that obsession gives Jules a good deal of control, but it develops in an organic way that justifies the dynamics of their relationship.
As Annie and Jules grow closer and explore their romance more, we meet one of the men who’s fallen for Jules’ online persona. Frank ( Pat Healy ) has a family that he’s working hard to support, but he’s powerless against the urge to ogle Jules despite the fact that it could topple his fragile marriage. I’ve said this before, but it feels necessary to say it again - Healy needs to be in the spotlight more often. Teenage Cocktail makes a pretty drastic tonal shift towards the end and it works well because of Bloom and Therese’s chemistry, but also largely because Healy has the versatility to support it.
Other performances worth noting are Borth and Joshua Leonard as Annie’s parents. At first they’re your typical loving, well-meaning mother and father, just trying to be supportive while gently coaxing their daughter away from bad behavior. When it becomes apparent that there’s a serious problem that needs to be addressed, it’s especially interesting to see how they both react and in those moments, Borth and Leonard excel by delivering two drastically different performances. Borth boasts one lengthy dialogue-driven scene that’s captured in a single shot yet hits an extremely wide range of beats and emotions. That moment segues into a powerful one-two punch because right after that, we get a scene featuring Leonard that could make you well up due to his facial expressions and body language alone.
The only element of the film that feels a bit artificial is director John Carchietta ’s choice to put a red or pink hue over select visuals. He’s pretty consistent with the technique, which tends to pop up during the more romantic, music video-like scenes, but in one particular moment, the switch from natural frames to ones with this filter is so abrupt that it catches you completely off guard and takes you out of the film. [ Note: We've just been informed that this was the result of a screening glitch so you will not see this in the final film.]
There’s that and two questionable minor plot points, but otherwise Teenage Cocktail is a quality film that goes well beyond entertaining high school romance and makes a lasting impression by highlighting the overwhelming power of blinding passion. Whether it’s Annie’s love for Jules or Jules’ dream to move to New York, Teenage Cocktail manages to inspire you to root for them to achieve their dreams while skillfully weaving in warning signs that there will be consequences to their risky decisions.

When we asked cocktail pros to give us their trend predictions for 2022, we got even more excited to drink delicious cocktails in the new year. Twists on classic cocktails are in; so are non-alcoholic sips. According to the pros, we'll see lots more bubbly cocktails , drinks with vegetables, bitter concoctions, and tequila, tequila, tequila. We've rounded up our favorite cocktail recipes for these 2022 trends, so you can be ahead of the curve.

Amaro Montenegro, an Italian digestif, brings strong flavors of orange to this pleasantly bitter cocktail. The drink starts out warm, with light, molasses-y sweetness coming through the first sip, but packs a pleasantly bitter bite. It's a touch smoky and delightfully strong. Finish it with a dash of grapefruit bitters, and garnish with a grapefruit peel twist.

This delicious gin, Campari and vermouth cocktail develops a smooth, deep flavor after being aged in an oak barrel for a month.

Bright and bubbly, this simple cocktail is as drinkable as it is endlessly riffable. For added sweetness, stir in an extra spoonful of jam, or try grilling your peaches for a hint of smoke that accentuates the tequila.

A bold, strong cocktail with both high-proof bourbon and light rum gets a hit of floral sweetness from mellow crème de banane.

For Julia Bainbridge, going booze-free isn't about doing without-the nonalcoholic bottles and cocktails she celebrates are extra in the best way possible. This refreshing nonalcoholic cocktail from Bryan Dayton is featured in Bainbridge's book , Good Drinks . It is sweet and mildly bitter from Seedlip Garden 108 with botanical notes that shine with the addition of fragrant, herbal tonic water.

Inspired by the classic Adonis cocktail of sherry and vermouth, this stiff drink from Kim Kyungmoon balances earthy, fermented Chungju with amaro. Chungju, a Korean alcoholic beverage brewed from rice, and Amaro Nonino , a liqueur from the region of Friuli in northern Italy, both offer a pleasantly musky, nutty flavor, while vermouth shines through with a burst of sweetness. For a source of artisanal Chungju from Korea's oldest brewery, visit Woorisoul .

A classic combination of gin, lemon, and club soda gets a refreshing twist with cucumber, basil, and black cardamom infused syrup. Dried rose petals add a subtle floral flavor and act as a beautiful garnish.

Dirty vodka martinis are a staple at television personality Alex Guarnaschelli's parties, but she also likes to mix it up from time to time. A floral gin martini made seriously dirty with olives is a great palate opener, she says, but the real secret is adding the brine from the jar of capers in the door in her fridge.

This fresh cocktail balances light citrus and herbal notes from the infused syrup with bubbly club soda and smooth blanco tequila. Substitute gin for a more prominent botanical flavor.

Boozy, bitter, and tart, this vibrant red blended drink sips like a frozen Negroni. It's the perfect not-too-sweet boozy frozen summer slushy. Keyatta Mincey-Parker's method of infusing the blanc vermouth with whole dried hibiscus flowers imparts their fruity and floral sweetness without masking the delicate aromas and flavor.

Light yet oaky, Irish whiskey joins tart lemon juice, honey, and spicy ginger beer in this refreshing, fizzy, basil-scented Irish Buck cocktail.

In this refreshing cocktail, Prosecco adds a lively spritz to a light, watermelon-forward margarita. If you happen to have a juicer on hand, you can certainly use it here.

Leopold's Summer Gin brings a smooth, floral flavor to this botanical cocktail with notes of cucumber, sage, lemon, and lavender. Be sure to use food-safe rose petals, not ones treated with pesticides or insecticides, for garnish.

In this festive punch, the sweet and smoky notes of grilled pineapple meld deliciously with tequila, Ancho Reyes Verde (a spicy, crisp poblano liqueur), and splashes of pineapple and lime juices

With a generous portion of lime juice, this puckery Rosemary Gimlet is balanced by the piney rosemary-honey syrup. Using botanically bracing gin makes it a gimlet; if you like, try substituting white rum for the gin to make a rosemary daiquiri.

This variation on the old-fashioned swaps gin for the whiskey. A splash of Campari adds bitterness and a rosy color.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson loves a good margarita, especially when it's made with his Teremana tequila (which he calls a "Manarita"). This sweet-and-sour version has a tart kick from the pomegranate juice and a vibrant red color.

Fruity, rich, and mildly sweet dark-berry liqueur plays well with both effervescent sparkling wine in this Winter Berries cocktail, while grain-forward bourbon adds a touch of heat. Garnish this bubbly sipper with a thin half-moon slice of lemon.

The spicy-sweet fig-ginger syrup rounds out the smoky mezcal and bright lemon juice in this cocktail. Mezcal is still the dominant flavor in this barely sweet drink that lets the liquor shine.

This sweet and sour soju cocktail from Kim Kyungmoon brings to mind the tart creaminess of a gin fizz but brings the punchier, grain-forward notes of Golden Barley 40% soju in place of floral gin. The frothy egg white cuts through those brightly boozy and acidic flavors to balance each sip.

A Chilean twist on an Italian Favorite, this Negroni swaps out gin for Träkál , an herbaceous spirit from Northern Patagonia. Matias Supan, the bartender-owner of Santiago's Seite Negronis, uses slightly less Trakal than you would gin so that the spirit doesn't overpower the Campari and vermouth.

A super-thin slice of cucumber pressed against the glass adds an artistic twist to this refreshing non-alcoholic cocktail with lemon, lime, and cucumber juice.
