Siobhan Finneran Set to Star in New BBC Drama 'The Silent House'

London, UK – April 8, 2025

Acclaimed British actress Siobhan Finneran, best known for her roles in Happy Valley, Downton Abbey, and Benidorm, has been cast as the lead in an upcoming BBC thriller titled The Silent House.

The six-part series, penned by BAFTA-winning writer Paul Abbott (Shameless, State of Play), follows a reclusive crime novelist (Finneran) who becomes entangled in a real-life murder mystery after discovering dark secrets in her remote Yorkshire village.

Finneran, whose portrayal of the sharp-tongued Clare Cartwright in Happy Valley earned widespread praise, is expected to bring her signature blend of wit and intensity to the role.

'I’m thrilled to be working with Paul and the BBC again,' Finneran said in a statement. 'The Silent House is a gripping, character-driven story, and I can’t wait for audiences to see it.'

Filming is set to begin this summer in West Yorkshire, with a premiere expected in early 2026. The series will also star Line of Duty’s Adrian Dunbar and The Crown’s Erin Doherty in supporting roles.

BBC Drama chief Lindsay Salt called the project 'a masterclass in suspense,' adding, 'Siobhan is one of the most compelling actors of her generation, and this role is tailor-made for her.'

Fans of Finneran’s work are already buzzing about her return to the small screen in another high-stakes drama. Will The Silent House be the next Happy Valley-level hit? Only time will tell.
