SilentLens Support

Private storage. Simple support.

Welcome to SilentLens Support.

SilentLens is designed to keep your private photos, videos, audio, documents, notes, and files securely on your device — without accounts or cloud storage.

If you need help, start with the answers below.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I unlock SilentLens?

SilentLens uses Face ID together with your vault PIN.

Open SilentLens and authenticate with Face ID. Enter your vault PIN when requested to access your encrypted vault.

Where is my data stored?

Your vault is stored locally on your iPhone.

SilentLens does not use cloud storage or an online account for your vault content.

Your encrypted database and encrypted files remain on your device.

Does SilentLens upload my photos or files?

No.

SilentLens is designed so your vault content stays on your device.

There is no cloud synchronization or external vault storage.

What happens if I forget my PIN?

SilentLens does not provide a recovery phrase or server-side password reset.

Your vault security is designed around your device and vault credentials.

Make sure you remember your PIN before storing important content in your vault.

Can I use Face ID?

Yes.

Face ID can be used as part of the SilentLens unlock process.

Face ID authentication is handled by Apple's system security framework; SilentLens does not receive your Face ID data.

Can I create multiple vaults?

Yes.

SilentLens supports multiple vaults on the same device, with each vault associated with its own PIN.

Can I import photos and videos?

Yes.

You can import existing photos and videos using the iOS photo picker.

Imported media is encrypted when added to the vault.

Can I import documents and other files?

Yes.

SilentLens supports importing PDFs and other files through the iOS Files interface.

For generic files, metadata may remain intact because SilentLens does not modify the internal contents of arbitrary file formats.

Does SilentLens remove photo metadata?

Photos captured by SilentLens have metadata such as GPS and EXIF information removed before being stored.

This helps prevent sensitive location and camera information from being retained with captured photos.

Can I scan documents?

Yes.

SilentLens includes document scanning so you can capture documents directly into your encrypted vault.

Can I record audio?

Yes.

SilentLens supports audio recording and stores recordings inside the encrypted vault.

Sharing

Can I share files with another device?

Yes.

SilentLens supports secure sharing between devices.

Nearby sharing can establish a direct connection between devices, while remote sharing can use encrypted pairing with trusted contacts.

Your vault encryption keys are not shared with the recipient.

Does sharing expose my entire vault?

No.

Sharing is designed around individual content rather than giving another device access to your vault.

The recipient receives the shared content and stores it in their own encrypted vault.

Can shared content expire?

Yes.

Depending on the sharing configuration, shared content can have an expiration period such as:

  • 1 hour
  • 24 hours
  • 7 days

Shared content can also be configured for one-time viewing.

Privacy & Security

Does SilentLens use encryption?

Yes.

SilentLens uses industry-standard cryptographic technologies including AES-GCM and SQLCipher to protect vault data.

Cryptographic keys are protected using Apple's security technologies, including Secure Enclave and Keychain.

Does SilentLens use iCloud?

SilentLens does not use iCloud to synchronize your vault.

Vault-related files are also configured to be excluded from iCloud backup.

Does SilentLens send notifications?

No.

SilentLens does not require notification permission or use push notifications for vault activity.

Can my private content appear in the app switcher?

SilentLens uses a privacy cover when the app moves into the background to help prevent sensitive content from being visible in the app switcher.

Troubleshooting

Face ID is not working

First, make sure Face ID is enabled on your device and that SilentLens has permission to use it.

You can check Face ID settings in:

Settings → Face ID & Passcode

If Face ID continues to fail, you can retry authentication or follow the unlock flow presented by SilentLens.

I cannot import a file

Make sure the file is accessible through the iOS Files app and that the file format is supported by your device.

Try closing and reopening SilentLens, then attempt the import again.

A shared item is no longer available

Shared content may have an expiration time or may have been configured for one-time viewing.

If the sender configured an expiration or burn policy, the content may no longer be accessible.

The app is not responding

Try the following:

  1. Return to the Home Screen.
  2. Reopen SilentLens.
  3. If the issue persists, restart your iPhone.
  4. Make sure you are running a supported version of iOS.

SilentLens requires iOS 17 or later.
