SilentLens Privacy Policy

SilentLens is a privacy-focused encrypted media vault for iOS. We designed SilentLens so that your private content remains under your control.

1. Information We Collect

SilentLens does not require an account and does not collect your name, email address, phone number, or other personal information for account registration.

SilentLens does not operate a cloud service and does not upload your vault contents to our servers.

Photos, videos, audio recordings, notes, documents, and other files stored in SilentLens remain on your device and are encrypted before being stored as vault data.

2. Your Content

SilentLens can store:

Photos and videos
Audio recordings
Scanned documents and PDFs
Notes
Files imported from the Photos or Files app

Content captured or imported into the vault is processed locally on your device.

Where applicable, metadata is removed from photos, videos, and scanned content before encryption. Generic files may contain internal metadata; SilentLens displays a warning before importing such files.

SilentLens does not use your private vault content for advertising, analytics, profiling, or machine learning.

3. Encryption and Security

SilentLens uses industry-standard cryptographic technologies to protect your vault.

Vault data is encrypted using AES-GCM. The vault database is protected using SQLCipher. Key material is derived using cryptographic mechanisms including HKDF-SHA256 and is protected using Apple's Secure Enclave and Keychain technologies.

Vault keys are held in memory only while the corresponding vault is unlocked. When the vault is locked, sensitive key material is cleared from memory and the encrypted database is closed.

SilentLens also supports Face ID as part of its device-bound security model.

4. No Cloud Storage or Account

SilentLens does not provide cloud synchronization, cloud storage, or an online account system.

Your vault is not backed up to iCloud. Vault databases, encrypted media, thumbnails, and temporary vault files are excluded from iCloud backup.

Because SilentLens does not maintain a cloud copy of your vault, we cannot recover your vault contents if you lose access to them.

5. Permissions

SilentLens may request access to the following iOS capabilities when you use the corresponding features:

Camera

Used to capture photos, videos, and document scans, and to scan pairing QR codes.

Microphone

Used for audio recording and video sound.

Face ID

Used to unlock the vault and to authorize certain security-sensitive sharing operations.

Local Network and Bluetooth

Used to discover and communicate with nearby devices for peer-to-peer sharing.

Photos and Files

SilentLens uses Apple's system pickers to allow you to select content for import. Photos are selected through Apple's photo picker rather than requiring continuous access to your entire photo library.

SilentLens supports secure sharing between devices.

Nearby sharing uses an encrypted peer-to-peer connection. Remote sharing uses encrypted exports and paired contacts.

Shared content is encrypted for the receiving device. Your vault encryption keys are not shared with the recipient.

You can configure sharing policies such as view-once, expiration, forwarding restrictions, and capture penalties where supported by the app.

7. Notifications

SilentLens does not request notification permission and does not send push or local notifications.

Vault activity and security feedback are presented inside the app.

8. Screenshots and Screen Recording

SilentLens is designed to prevent private vault content from appearing in screenshots and screen recordings while protected content is being viewed.

The app also uses a privacy cover when it becomes inactive or enters the background.

9. Third-Party Services

SilentLens does not require third-party cloud storage or analytics services to operate its vault.

The app relies on Apple's system frameworks and security technologies, including Secure Enclave, Face ID, CryptoKit, LocalAuthentication, AVFoundation, and other iOS frameworks.

10. Data Retention and Deletion

Your encrypted vault data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.

Deleting an item or album removes the corresponding vault data from the active storage.

SilentLens does not maintain a remote copy of your deleted content.

Please note that device-level backups, filesystem snapshots, system logs, or forensic recovery mechanisms outside SilentLens are outside the scope of the app's deletion model.

11. Children's Privacy

SilentLens does not knowingly collect personal information from children or other users because the app does not require an online account or collect personal information for registration.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when SilentLens changes or when additional clarification is necessary.

The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was most recently revised.
