This is an excellent release and a early cornerstone of European Black Metal. This disk also contains a live performance (8 songs) - a great early live set - and a studio cover of the Venom song "Manitou" - which is pretty good. The "Worship Him" album proper I find very enjoyable - especially the faster songs - "Sleep of Death" (catchy guitar riff), "Morbid Metal" (nice vocal distortion part), "Rite of Cthulhu", "The Black Face", "Messenger of the Light" and "The Dark". "Last Benediction" is something of a classical piece, which is cool. I find the songs "Worship Him", "Knowledge of the Ancient Kingdom" and "Into the Pentagram" slow and ponderous and a tad boring for my taste, but I guess they're okay to break up the album in between the faster compositions. If you are into European Black Metal, buy this album.
I love the album that's why i ordered it but the damn album got lost some in the mail i got a refund i don't know if well come still, if it does i'm not sending it back i payed for it the first time & they shipped it far & square it should free of charge, if it gets lost in the mail & they refund me it's not my fault or theirs it was unexpected if they want there money well i don't what to tell ya i didn't do a crime.
Great purchase and fast mail service
This is one of the black metal bands that is the base of the style. They are the classic black metal. They have mastered it over time. This is a dark, gothic album with a few fast tracks and a few piano fill-ins. The album is balanced perfectly though to some people it will seem that the music seems the same, but you have to listen to it a little bit and be more experienced in the black metal area. this is a must buy for all crazy fans and old-school black metal heads. it is an awesome creation and a great debut album.
The songs on this album are not bad. They aren't exactly good either, though. Most of them plod through a poorly produced Satanic atmosphere with a few highlights here and there but nothing that would make this album worth more than one listen every few years or so... There is almost nothing on Worship Him that appears to precede any of the band's later efforts, including my favorite album by them so far, Blood Ritual. The only "song" that comes close is the instrumental "The Dark" which has enough variations to keep your interest at the very least. They save this gem for the end, though. The album does pick up on "Morbid Metal" and another instrumental, "Rite of Cthulhu". The rest of it is slow and, well, boring. If you want to know Samael's roots, you might be better off with Blood Ritual. If you like their more experimental later works, then stay away from this. In other words, unless you want a complete Samael collection, don't pick up this record. Everything they do on this is done better on Blood Ritual.

Until 1991, the term "Black Metal" mostly referred to bands formed in the garage who tried to be as hellish as Venom while pointing towards Black Sabbath's use of Gothic imagery. Strangely enough, most critics tend to draw a dividing line between "First Wave" and "Second Wave", a line that is mostly senseless, since the difference lied not in the music (whic… Read More

Worship Him, the debut release from future Swiss metal stars Samael, is about as rough and raw as it gets, eviscerating all comers with its savage and primitive black metal assault, which was clearly inspired by the earliest works of Bathory , Hellhammer , and Mayhem . Fans attracted later on who backtrack to these primal origins will find virtually no signs of the band they came to know, since only a few slightly more disciplined highlights like "Sleep of Death" and "The Dark," as well as the prophetic keyboard instrumental "Last Benediction," even hint at Samael's subsequent development into one of Europe's most innovative and genre-bending extreme metal bands. Yes, black metal purists will argue all night long about how it was all downhill from here, but it's difficult to imagine Samael making much of a career within such self-limiting parameters. Nay, evolution was their destiny.
