Speech: “ O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? ”

(from Romeo and Juliet , spoken by Juliet)
O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name.

Nor arm nor face nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O be some other name.
What’s in a name? That which we call a rose

And for that name, which is no part of thee,

Song of the Witches: “Double, double toil and trouble”

Sonnet 15: When I consider everything that grows

Sonnet 18: Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

Sonnet 19: Devouring Time, blunt thou the lion's paws

Speech: “ O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? ”

By William Shakespeare

Region:

England

School/Period:

Renaissance

While William Shakespeare’s reputation is based primarily on his plays, he became famous first as a poet. With the partial exception of the Sonnets (1609), quarried since the early 19th century for autobiographical secrets allegedly encoded in them, the nondramatic writings have traditionally been pushed...
