Rome Open 2025: Djokovic and Swiatek Triumph in Thrilling Finals

Rome, May 18, 2025 – The 2025 Internazionali BNL d'Italia, commonly known as the Rome Open, concluded with spectacular finals as Novak Djokovic and Iga Świątek claimed the men’s and women’s singles titles in a thrilling weekend of tennis at the historic Foro Italico.

Djokovic Defies Age, Wins Record-Extending Sixth Rome Title

In a gripping men’s final, world No. 1 Novak Djokovic battled past rising star Carlos Alcaraz in a three-set marathon, 6-7(5), 7-5, 6-3. The 37-year-old Serbian showcased his trademark resilience, saving two championship points in the second set before overpowering the 22-year-old Spaniard in the decider.

With this victory, Djokovic extended his record to six Rome Open titles, further cementing his legacy as one of the greatest clay-court players of all time. 'This tournament has always been special to me,' Djokovic said. 'To win here again, against such a tough opponent, means a lot.'

Świątek Dominates, Claims Third Rome Crown

On the women’s side, Iga Świątek continued her clay-court dominance with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 victory over Elena Rybakina. The Polish star, who has now won three of the last four Rome Opens, displayed her trademark precision and power, dismantling Rybakina in just 68 minutes.

'I love playing here—the crowd, the atmosphere, everything,' Świątek said after lifting the trophy. 'This gives me great confidence heading into Roland Garros.'

Doubles Drama

The men’s doubles title went to the Italian duo of Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti, who delighted the home crowd with a thrilling win over the top-seeded pair. Meanwhile, in the women’s doubles, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula secured their first Rome title together.

A Tournament of Surprises and Comebacks

This year’s Rome Open saw several upsets, including early exits for defending champion Daniil Medvedev and 2024 runner-up Aryna Sabalenka. Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal, playing in what could be his final Rome appearance, received an emotional farewell after a third-round loss.

With the French Open just around the corner, the Rome Open has set the stage for an exciting clay-court Grand Slam. Djokovic and Świątek will enter Roland Garros as the players to beat, but as this tournament proved, surprises are always possible in tennis.
