Rockies Rally Past Giants in Dramatic Game

Rockies Stun Giants with Late-Inning Rally, Win 6-5 in Dramatic Fashion

Denver, CO – May 5, 2025 – In a thrilling showdown at Coors Field, the Colorado Rockies mounted a stunning ninth-inning comeback to defeat the San Francisco Giants 6-5, snapping the Giants' five-game winning streak.

The Giants appeared to be in control for most of the game, with ace pitcher Logan Webb delivering six strong innings and third baseman Matt Chapman launching a two-run homer in the fifth. San Francisco held a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth, but the Rockies' bats came alive when it mattered most.

Colorado’s breakout star, rookie outfielder Jordan Beck, ignited the rally with an RBI double in the eighth, cutting the deficit to 5-3. Then, in the ninth, Giants closer Camilo Doval—usually reliable—struggled with command, walking two batters before allowing a game-tying two-run single to veteran Charlie Blackmon. With the crowd on its feet, Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar delivered the walk-off hit, a sharp line drive to left field, scoring Brenton Doyle from second base.

'It's games like this that remind you why you never stop fighting,' said Rockies manager Bud Black. 'The guys believed, and they executed when it counted.'

The loss was a tough pill to swallow for the Giants, who had been riding high after a dominant April. 'We let this one slip away,' said Giants manager Bob Melvin. 'We’ll learn from it and move on.'

The two teams will face off again tomorrow night, with Rockies lefty Kyle Freeland set to duel against Giants rookie sensation Mason Black. First pitch is at 6:40 PM MT.
