How do you ask someone if they are trans? I am talking to a woman and I want to ask but I don't want to offend.

The thing is... we have a date planned and I kinda want to avoid an awkward situation. It would be awkward for me bc I would want to know ahead of time and I'm not good with surprises.... and... I don't know if I want to date a trans woman. I understand that's offensive to some but it's my decision to make. I need to process it and think about it some.
You don't. You wait for them to offer that information to you. If you want to get that information, the best way to go about it is to present yourself in such a way that you are a safe person to divulge that information to. Judging by the wording of your question, I imagine that you're probably not a safe person to divulge that information to.

Some ppl don't date trans women and it's their preference. I'm just interested in knowing... not sure if it would affect me wanting to date her or not.
Y'don't ask; you wait for her to tell you. If you're attracted to her, you're attracted to her - I dunno what her being trans or not would change, personally. If you're really so against the idea of dating a particular type of woman, maybe put it upfront in your profile so they can also know not to waste their time.
That's the funny thing----- people and their preferences are all different. And you're making the assumption that I am against dating a trans woman. I'm unsure. I'd like to know so I can consider it but yes, to me it does make a difference and it's something I want to know ahead of time.
It's not your's to ask, but their's to volunteer if they want to. Otherwise, I guess something mentioning such and such a trans person in the news though, then maybe somehow more carefully implying / dropping a hint you're ok / not ok with trans folks by way of that.
I'm definitely ok with trans folks... I just don't know if i want to date a trans woman. I want to know ahead of time, before meeting. It seems from ppl's responses that my wanting that is offensive or inappropriate... but I don't feel it is. I think leaving it out is inappropriate. Meeting and having a big elephant in the room seems like a set up for an awkward date. Everyone is different but those are my feelings on it. I'm trying to look at it from all angles though.
If you’re not willing to date a trans woman you should say that in your profile to let everyone know.
I'm not necessarily not willing... I just want a heads up. I need to be able to process and consider it. If that makes sense.
It may not change a thing in my life but it's my decision if I want to actually date someone who is trans or not. There's that too. Which is why I would like to know if she's trans or not.
