yeah, everyone makes this assumption that most women do something to their "bikini line" <---a nice way of saying "pussy area"...haha. but me and most girls i know don't do jack shit. well, i do trim it back from time to time so as not to get that scary 70's porno bush, but i don't shave. i don't make a "landing strip" with my razor. i only use my razor to shave my pits. i shave my pits more as a comfort thing than as a cosmetic thing. i don't need to validate my existence on this planet by being vain about something so benign and natural as some fucking HAIR. it's a personal choice, and most girls i know choose not to fuss with something so silly as being hairless. it's an unrealistic ideal that we're held to, us women. we must be cute, small, hairless, and helpless. ok, now i'm just going on one of my rants. poo.

Do you remember the first time you shaved your pubes ? When you were awkwardly bent over in the shower yelling at your parents to stop knocking on the door and asking why you've been in there for so long...oh, was that just me?

OK, even if you can't relate, everyone has a preference when it comes to how they maintain their pubic hair. Landing strip. Brazilian . Five o'clock shadow. Full bush. You name it. Whether you have a freshly trimmed flowerbed or lush, overgrown jungle, you're in charge of your own foliage.

Along with that autonomy comes a range of reasons for why people do or don't prefer to have hair down there. Maybe you like the skin around your hoo-ha to be silky smooth for sex. Or maybe you would rather skip the irritated skin and save time in the shower. Curious how common your down-below grooming habits are? Researchers from a university in Belgium actually decided to explore pubic hair trends and the reasons behind them .

They analyzed data from a survey of over 4,000 Belgian men and women over the age of 15. Participants were asked questions like whether they groomed their pubes, why they did or didn't (but not how, unfortunately), their relationship status and sexuality, and more.

Here's what they found: 80% of women said they had removed their pubic hair recently at the time of the survey. Perhaps unsurprisingly, that number was only 39% for the guys. Just 3% of women said they had never removed their pubic fuzz. Seriously, not even once. But many more men than women said they had a lifelong bush—21%, to be exact.

Women were also more likely to start mowing their lawn at a younger age, according to the survey. About 88% of ladies ages 15 to 20 reported grooming, while only about 28% of men in that age group did so. Women between 15 to 20 were the most likely to trim among women in general, while men between 40 and 50 were doing the most pubic grooming among guys.

Lesbian women reported grooming slightly more than hetero or bisexual women, and bisexual men were most likely to go hairless. Married dudes were most likely to trim, while women were most likely to do so if they were dating someone they didn't live with.

The researchers also looked at why people groom. Comfort during oral sex was at the top of the list, with 75% of women and 39% of men choosing this reason. About 67% of women said they do it because they feel more feminine, 63% said they like to feel soft, and 62% said their partner liked it. Women who didn't shave said they opt out because of the side effects, like itching and bumps, or because their partner prefers them not to.

Cleanliness was a close second for the men, with 39% of them saying they "think it is more hygienic." About 37% of men also said they "like to feel soft," and 36% said their partner wanted them to be clean shaven.

So there you have it, folks. Everyone is different below the belt, and pubic hair is no exception. However you whack your weeds, be proud of it.

The researchers said they wanted women to step back and and think about what they want to do with their pubic hair
TWO students have carried out an awkward survey, asking women to draw their chosen pubic hair style.
Female students Alex Heal and Jess Sartenaer have tackled one of society's last taboos with the amusing poll and say that they came up with the idea after chatting about the topic with friends.
After some initial giggles the questioned women bared-all, drawing pictures of their personal preference on a whiteboard for the video entitled “How Do You Shape Your Bush?”
Most of the ladies said they preferred a Hollywood style - the removal of all hair - or a Brazilian - the removal of all but a small strip.
Only one student claimed that she liked to keep hers a natural shape - preferring just to "give it a little trim".
All the women said they based their look on their own preferences, but many admitted they do take into consideration the opinions of sexual partners.
One said: "I usually go for a nice neat little landing strip."
Another added: "I think of it as a nice little decorative piece on my bare naked body."
But some voiced worries over the porn industry affecting their choices.
One added: "The porn industry does alter thoughts on women's view on women.
"There's an expectation from guys that there will be only a little bit of hair there."
The students produced the amusing three-minute video for Bristol University TV channel UBTV and filmed the women in their university library.
Alex, a final year Politics and French student and co-head of women's interest for UBTV, said: "The idea came about when my fellow head of women's interest, Jess Sartenaer, and I were chatting with one of our friends who was complaining about how painful, expensive and inconvenient she finds waxing.
"It got us thinking about the reasons why we put ourselves through this and started wondering if other women felt the same way.
"We both feel it is vital that the media addresses topics which have previously been seen as taboo.
"It is so empowering to see the women on the film talking about their pubic hair with such confidence and assurance.
"We really want to prompt women to step back and take away social expectations and think about what they want to do with their pubic hair.
"And the more we do that the more we as a society promote a healthy attitude to our bodies."
Jess, a final-year Law and French student, added: "I personally was surprised by how many women said they prefer the Hollywood style, but that is just because of my personal preferences.
"When I think about it objectively, I guess it is not a shock.
"I brought up the topic with my mum and she said that hair removal was completely unheard of 30 or 40 years ago and it really hit home how much of a new phenomenon it is.
"I believe that the full clean shaven look was first used in porn films so you could see more.
"But slowly it has moved in to a statement of beauty, and for many young men and women it is what they expect.
"There is no malice in this expectation, but this idea of hairlessness is being subconsciously picked up by young people who watch porn and use it as their introduction to sex.
"I am sure if we were to ask teenage girls about their pubic hair preferences, the majority would chose Hollywood.
"But then again, that is not to say that all women who choose to remove their pubic hair do so because of social expectations.
"As we saw during filming, several said they prefer it because it feels cleaner and is easy to maintain."
The filmmakers, both in their final year of study, are planning a series of short films next year on other topics including slut shaming and body confidence.
