I have heard many conflicting reports about Yandex browser, so I thought I’d ask here.
I’m looking for a new browser, long time Firefox user, but many of the extensions I need to use are only available for Chrome, this wasn’t an issue until Chrome Store Foxified was discontinued.
I need a browser with the following features mandatory:
Can use chrome extensions on desktop
must Work on the big 3 (Windows, Mac, Linux)
must support syncing of open tabs, and history.
Yandex seems to fit the bill, but can it be trusted? I’ve heard reports of it sending info to places it shouldn’t be, I’ve heard reports that it’s perfectly safe, so I’m at a loss.
Obviously I don’t want to use Chrome.
Man, Yandex (the Company) is affiliated with Russian secret service(s). How can it be safe?
I do not recommend you to use anything from Yandex or Mail.ru . These companies are cancer and heavily affiliated with FSB and Russian Government.
Thanks for the replies. Many people swear Yandex is safe, but It just didn't feel right. Its the same reason I stopped using Opera...well that and new new Opera Mini sucks. Same reason I stopped using Dolphin Browser and its sync extension (which is awesome btw, except for its ties with the CCP).
Starting to feel like you have to choose between privacy and features, and it sucks.
I think the latest version of Brave ticks all your boxes. Not sure about #4 though.
Im actually using Brave right now, I just installed it. Very impressed, and your right Brave doesn't currently sync to iOS at all, however from my understanding it is in active development and on the way. I would love if anyone knows where I can find a timeline on this, because Brave has got my attention so far.
