How can I open a saved URL In Private? What I mean is I have URLs saved in a folder. If I double click on any of them, I want IE to open the URL In Private.
Optionally, how can I make IE open In Private rather than having to open IE, and then go to In Private?
#2 is easy. Just add -private to your command line. Hint: compare the Command line field in Task Manager to see this.
So #1 is probably not so hard either but it would involve a registry hack to add a new right-click Open action. Used to be easier in XP with its File Options File Types tab. (!) NirSoft have a FileTypesMan replacement. So see what you can do on
that tack. Otherwise, you could use ProcMon to find out how the right-click Open actions fit in under the FileType in HKCR and add your own.
Out of curiosity I fired up FileTypesMan and can see that in the case of .url and InternetShortcut you have a special case which won't be that simple to add a way of invoking IE with a different command line. You will see what I mean if you check it
out.
But who knows if you took the analysis far enough you might find that there is already an alternate entry point in ieframe.dll which you could specify be used to open IE in InPrivate Browsing mode? Tip: DependencyWalker would be a good tool for finding
that out if it is named in an obvious manner. ; )
