Princeton Names Lauren Blackburn DEI Dean

Princeton University Appoints Lauren Blackburn as New Dean of Diversity and Inclusion

Princeton, NJ – April 26, 2025 – Princeton University has announced the appointment of Lauren Blackburn as its new Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), effective July 1, 2025. Blackburn, a respected leader in higher education and advocacy, will oversee initiatives to foster an inclusive campus environment and advance Princeton’s commitment to equity.

A Leader in Inclusive Excellence

Blackburn joins Princeton from the University of Michigan, where she served as Senior Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion. With over 15 years of experience in DEI leadership, she has been recognized for her work in developing programs that support underrepresented students, faculty, and staff.

'Lauren Blackburn brings a wealth of expertise and a deep commitment to building inclusive academic communities,' said Princeton President Christopher Eisgruber. 'Her vision aligns with Princeton’s mission to create a campus where every individual can thrive.'

Priorities at Princeton

In her new role, Blackburn will collaborate with students, faculty, and administrators to strengthen Princeton’s DEI strategies, including recruitment of diverse talent, curriculum development, and campus climate initiatives.

'I am honored to join Princeton at such a pivotal time,' Blackburn said. 'Diversity and inclusion are not just values—they are essential to academic excellence. I look forward to working with the entire Princeton community to create meaningful, lasting change.'

Community Reaction

Student groups and faculty have welcomed Blackburn’s appointment, citing her track record of collaborative leadership. 'Her experience in student advocacy is exactly what we need,' said Priya Patel, president of Princeton’s Students for Equity and Inclusion.

Blackburn holds a Ph.D. in Education Policy from Columbia University and has published widely on equity in higher education. Her arrival comes as Princeton continues to implement recommendations from its 2020 Inclusive Campus Initiative.
