Local Brewer Upton Stout Wins National Craft Beer Award

In a surprising turn of events for the small town of Upton, local brewer Upton Stout has taken home the prestigious Golden Hops Award at the National Craft Beer Championships in Denver, Colorado. The award, given for excellence in dark beer brewing, has put the tiny Minnesota brewery on the map.

Upton Stout, a family-owned operation since 2018, gained fame for its signature 'Midnight Oatmeal Stout,' a rich, velvety beer with notes of coffee, chocolate, and a hint of maple. The brewery, which started as a passion project in founder Jake Holloway’s garage, now ships to over 20 states and has seen a 300% increase in orders since the award announcement.

'We’re just a small team who loves beer,' Holloway said in an emotional acceptance speech. 'To be recognized like this is beyond anything we imagined.'

The win has sparked celebrations in Upton, with the town planning a 'Stout Fest' next month featuring live music, food trucks, and, of course, plenty of Upton Stout on tap.

Competitors in the category included major craft breweries from Portland, San Diego, and Asheville, making Upton Stout’s victory a true underdog story.
