Is there a true purpose you have for producing more pre-cum?

Pre-cum is simply a wetness you get from sexual stimulation, it cleanses the urethra from acid so sperm can safely move through it when ejaculation comes into play. Most guys can't even tell that it's there (in all honestly) and there isn't really any other true benefits sexually or sensually, besides a slight wetness. (Nor does it define a males sexual performance.)

It does determine sexual performance because if sufficient pre cum is not produced the penis head dries up very quickly and it affects your erection and you might have to use external lubricants to get your erection back.
